I like to enjoy a good story. It's the journey and not the destination. I hate it when friends ruin a good story by telling me what will happen. I want the experience for myself.

The only one with a limited time span has to be movies since those are easy to watch.

Games and books require a significant time commitment and I don't want that to be ruined by some big mouthed idiot.

I don't mind having things "spoiled". If it's something like a character death, and it's a character I'm invested in, spoilers make me go "what?! How could that happen?", and then every decision that character makes from then on just seems tragically sad, because you know it's ultimately leading to their death. If the characters are likeable and the storytelling is good, it won't matter if you already knew; it will still make you cry.

I mind being spoiled while I'm not looking for it.

I don't mind being spoiled too much when I accidentally do it to myself when at a place where I shouldn't be while playing a game. It IS after all, my fault.

But also, when I'm spoiled a death, or the ending of something, that only takes away the SHOCK! of it. It doesn't take away my wondering "Why? How? What led to this?" and therein lies why though I may have something spoiled, I'll never have anything ruined.

The people who only see the shock value of a plot point are like what Stephen King described at the end of the Dark Tower: those who have sex solely for the paltry squirt at the end and don't care about the lovemaking in between.

I don't really get this whole "spoiler" thing ... I don't really care if I'm told that someone is going to die, because I will find out one way or another.
this.
i don't get it either. I got spoiled for the end of Watchmen (didn't read the graphic novel before watching the movie) by someone. Does that mean i didn't enjoy the movie? No, i still enjoyed it, even when the spoilered scene came up i was like "Woah!"
Just because you don't get it though, doesn't mean other people shouldn't get annoyed when things get spoiled for them. I could sort of understand you not caring, but to actually not GET the concept of people not liking spoilers baffles me, it's not the most difficult concept on earth to "get".

If you already know how something ends or get major spoiler it completely ruins the story as the big reveals or unexpected deaths don't have their appropriate or context impact, it defeats the point of part of the story as you already know what's going to happen before getting there. I guarentee you that point in watchmen would've had more weight if you didn't know it was going to happen and that's not even down to opinion, if you know something is going to happen it fundamentally isn't a surprise and thus bears less weight.

Off topic: Seriously, advertisements on capture codes now? What the hell escapist, that can fuck right off.?

I thought Youtube commenters were notorious assholes, to begin with. There's no real quality control there, and some people just don't think about it when they should.
Yeah, but there is always that diamond in the ruff.

Now I'm n to talking about the Escapist. We're somewhat okay, with spoiler tags and the such. However, I was just browsing the Nier soundtrack on youtube, first time through the game, thoroughly enjoying it, and then...
People start talking about Yonah dying in the comments. Apparently it's not a spoiler because you see her die in the start of the game, 1000 fucking years ago. No warning, just "SHE DIES LULZ".
Then even the titles of the damn songs. "Emil's sacrifice". Great. Thanks for that. No spoiler warning in the title? No? Okay, sure, that's cool. Oh, what's this? A related video of Popola and Devola dying? FANTASTIC. JUST WHAT I FUCKING WANTED.
Anyway, rant over, why do people no longer care about not spoiling things? It seems like it'd be pretty easy to type "spoiler warning" before a post, or in a title, but nope. Someone explain?
Youtube is not a kind and decent place. Go in with the assumption that you've opened up a massive spoiler tag.

whoa slow down there.
Did i in any way imply that people shouldn't get annoyed? no, i didn't. all i did say however is that i don't get what the big deal is, and that i personally don't care about it if i get spoiled or not.
This doesn't mean that i spoil people, i know that there is a majority of people who get upset about it.

And no, i really enjoyed the movie, even if was spoiled. I don't care for a big reveal or a suprise, i want to see a good narrative, not a kinder-suprise at the end. And the suprise at the end is for me just a minor detail, and doesn't carry the whole story for me.

So instead going at me, just assume that i formulated my post a bit weird. Everyone "gets it", but what i don't get is people getting their panties in a twist about it. but like already said : i don't spoil people because somewhere down the line, someone will whine about it. and it's not worth the hassle.

The game came out well over a year ago, there's something of a statute of limitations for worrying about spoilers. If you didn't want it spoiled for you then you shouldn't have gone digging around for things like the soundtrack. (which are notoriously spoiler heavy for most things)

Hell, I waited almost a year before I picked up Birth By Sleep. (partly because Squeenix drug their ass for 6months on getting us a localization) I avoid getting the game spoiled by just not actively seeking more info on it than I got before it's Japanese release.

You lose the right to piss and moan about spoilers after a year, especially if you're seeking out the soundtrack. Six months after a game is released, yeah I'm going to do my best to avoid spoiling something for someone. Though when you hit a year+, you can't expect people to pussy foot around on the outside chance someone who didn't want it spoiled is lurking in the chat. If you don't want something spoiled it's up to you to avoid places that are likely to contain spoilers. (IE websites hosting the soundtrack)

You want to know what a spoiler is? A spoiler is having your 11th grade english professor walk in on the first day of class and says, "Hey so what did you guys think of the 6th Potter book? I gotta say I was shocked when Snape killed Dumbledore," not even a month after the book had come out and you hadn't had a chance to read it cause you'd been too damn busy on your summer reading project to take the time and read it.(oh and insult to injury he never even grades the project you worked on instead of reading the book) THAT is a spoiler you're allowed to get pissed about.
