What follows is a spoken word/poem idea that I wrote down in a small book. *This is a spoken word poem, and the line breaks don't really do it justice as it's written on the page. Thus, in order to really feel it like it was meant to be felt, you have to hear it/read it aloud. So, read it like you're behind a mic about to perform an amazing piece of poetry to a crowd of people whose minds are hungry, starving for not only entertainment but also connection, and you happen to have a harmonious recipe to sate anyone's starvation. Read it like the words are finding their voice through the vibrating strings tugging or tensed and wrapped around your heart.* Anyhow, here goes:

I'm going to take on the persona
of every motivational speaker,
several Disney characters,
and the anthopomorphized form of
Freedom (and possibly cheesiness) now and
let you know what I've figured out about
love in my time alive walking along my life's line.

There's a poster in my adviser's office that says,
"Love like you've never been hurt"
and I believe that this saying is an
adequate place to truly begin this poem's speech patterns.

For my poem's purposes, I'm defining love
as did a philosopher who stated that
love is shown within each moment that you're engaged
in an activity which truly lets your inside soul shine through
like the sun finding cuts in clouds for its bright rays to sneak past.
To be in love,
True Love,
is to become a better person
simply because your inner energy synergizes with your
personal passions to make you a more complete person.

This is why
I can truly say
I love poetry,
or I love martial arts,
or music, or writing, or reading, or even breathing -
I love each and every one of these things because they
complete my passions and infuse my spirit with energy and
let me project my greater self on the world and leave it
affected, changed for the better.

These, the above ideas,
are why we must continue to love, as the poster says,
as though we've never been hurt
because hurting halts us halfway, so
if love connects us to our amazing internal energy,
then to love halfway is to effectively
render ourselves as
half of a whole,
as an incomplete thought,
as an unresolved song,
as an unfinished...
sentence.

So, as you walk your own life's lines,
be sure to see all the possibilities stretched out before you and
embrace each endeavor with love like you've never been hurt,
Like your heart
Won't
Be
Broken.

Anyhows, that's my take on love. It works sometimes.

Love will drive you mad. Love will make you irrational. Love will leave you devastated, when it leaves or is unrequited.

But it feels good, and it makes 'the loving' feel better.

I'm not normally a hippie type, however, the world needs more love and less unreasonable hate.

As a species we're designed to pair off and look after our young... love is just a biological and chemical reaction that compels us to be with a partner.

I would imagine no different to what a lot of birds who pair off for life feel.

The fact that it is just a sequence of biological reactions in no way diminishes its power, it's just sensible to understand how things actually work rather than attribute it to some sort of magic.

thats the best definition I can think of =P
When I saw the thread title, I knew, that there would be 100% sure this quote would be in here somewhere. Simply genius quote though.

Love is...

...Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate.

Thanks, Al!

P.S.: Also, a Battlefield apparently
Still, I think that eating enough chocolate to get that feeling constantly would be difficult/stupid/expensive.

Plus, You can't have sex with chocolate. Well, you could, but it wouldn't be as fun as with another person.
I know, believe me.

And it is a damn enjoyable chemical reaction as well.

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
Oh, baby don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more

What is love
Yeah

Oh, I don't know why you're not there
I give you my love, but you don't care
So what is right and what is wrong
Gimme a sign

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more

Whoa whoa whoa, oooh oooh
Whoa whoa whoa, oooh oooh

Oh, I don't know, what can I do
What else can I say, it's up to you
I know we're one, just me and you
I can't go on

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more

Whoa whoa whoa, oooh oooh
Whoa whoa whoa, oooh oooh

What is love, oooh, oooh, oooh
What is love, oooh, oooh, oooh

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more

Don't hurt me
Don't hurt me

I want no other, no other lover
This is your life, our time
When we are together, I need you forever
Is it love

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more (oooh, oooh)

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more (oooh, oooh)

What is love?

I'm going to quote another band. Queebsryche:
I awoke on impact
Under surveillance from the camera eye
Searching high and low
The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime
Handcuffed and blind, I didn't do it
She said she loved me
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, I'd never find her

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born, they've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love it doesn't matter
She made a difference
I guess she had a way
Of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No chance for contact
There's no raison d'etre
My only hope is one day I'll forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love it's all the same to me

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

For me it is quite simply.

Love is when there is a person in my life and my life is better for them being in it.

Its the samll things too; a while back I was in a cafe with my g/f and she bought 2 hot chocolates. One had far more cream and marshmallow then the other, that was the one she gave to me, cause she loves me. I swtiched them though, cause I love her.

See what I mean?

love is money, ad when you can't/won't give her everything for free, your dumped because "you used to be so nice, but know your an asshole."

ok that's just a joke, but love is generally just a way our brain tricks us into reproduction.

Now that that is out of the way, what do you think love is? Is it some deep spiritual connection? A gimmick to sell chocolate? or something else all together?
Love existed well before chocolate however.

Love is a feeling of being a smitten as a kitten (yes...apparently kittens are smitten) and loving the company of another on an emotional and a deeper level.

or Being happy just by being with them
Hey, that's taken out of context. Remember the most important part of my post. The last line.
i guess...but life is made of highs and lows and it's these lows that make the high's much more satisfying.
IE compare the feelings of :
A) someone whose general mood would be "neutral" who then gets into a good relationship
B) someone who just went through a messy break up but shortly after gets into a good relationship

...that probably doesnt sound right but im probably overthinking things by this point
Then, there are those of us who God decides only to curse and not bless, who go through a messy breakup and then go through years of loneliness and their only memories are of heartbreak and sadness.

Love is madness.

Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!

Uhm, anyway, love is being mad about a person in a good way! You feel a deep spitual connection between you and your victim partner.

When you love a person, offenses become more hurtful, and good things become much better. Sex with that person is better simply because you love them. There is a deep caring about what happens to that person, and what they want, need, and feel. Being in their presence, talking to them, and remembering good times with them makes you happy, as does the knowledge that they are happy. Every emotion is driven to the extreme, be it happy, sad, or angry. Love doesn't make a damn bit of sense, but it has the potential to be the one thing that makes life most fulfilling.
You had me right up until...
It's also almost impossible to find, and not worth the pain and suffering you endure in the meantime and as a result, so why fucking bother?
Which I totally disagree with.
If it isn't worth searching for and fighting for, then it wouldn't be worth having.
But speaking as someone who is indeed very much in love with his wife, but had to get through a lot of crappy relationships that left scars of their own, it is absolutely worth finding and fighting for.
