What follows is a spoken word/poem idea that I wrote down in a small book. *This is a spoken word poem, and the line breaks don't really do it justice as it's written on the page. Thus, in order to really feel it like it was meant to be felt, you have to hear it/read it aloud. So, read it like you're behind a mic about to perform an amazing piece of poetry to a crowd of people whose minds are hungry, starving for not only entertainment but also connection, and you happen to have a harmonious recipe to sate anyone's starvation. Read it like the words are finding their voice through the vibrating strings tugging or tensed and wrapped around your heart.* Anyhow, here goes:
I'm going to take on the persona
of every motivational speaker,
several Disney characters,
and the anthopomorphized form of
Freedom (and possibly cheesiness) now and
let you know what I've figured out about
love in my time alive walking along my life's line.
There's a poster in my adviser's office that says,
"Love like you've never been hurt"
and I believe that this saying is an
adequate place to truly begin this poem's speech patterns.
For my poem's purposes, I'm defining love
as did a philosopher who stated that
love is shown within each moment that you're engaged
in an activity which truly lets your inside soul shine through
like the sun finding cuts in clouds for its bright rays to sneak past.
To be in love,
True Love,
is to become a better person
simply because your inner energy synergizes with your
personal passions to make you a more complete person.
This is why
I can truly say
I love poetry,
or I love martial arts,
or music, or writing, or reading, or even breathing -
I love each and every one of these things because they
complete my passions and infuse my spirit with energy and
let me project my greater self on the world and leave it
affected, changed for the better.
These, the above ideas,
are why we must continue to love, as the poster says,
as though we've never been hurt
because hurting halts us halfway, so
if love connects us to our amazing internal energy,
then to love halfway is to effectively
render ourselves as
half of a whole,
as an incomplete thought,
as an unresolved song,
as an unfinished...
sentence.
So, as you walk your own life's lines,
be sure to see all the possibilities stretched out before you and
embrace each endeavor with love like you've never been hurt,
Like your heart
Won't
Be
Broken.
Anyhows, that's my take on love. It works sometimes.
