It's the desire for a person to be happy, and being happy because of them.
or Being happy just by being with them
Hey, that's taken out of context. Remember the most important part of my post. The last line.

I don't believe in destiny
or the guiding hand of fate
I don't believe in forever
Or love as a mystical state
I don't believe in the stars or the planets
or angels watching from above

I believe there's a ghost of a chance
we can find someone to love

and make it last

Love is when you can say the poem:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You look good naked,
so. get. naked.

and she doesn't walk out of the house.

Its an intense feeling of happiness around another person(s). You care deeply for them as they you.

Here's a good one, from Starman"

"Love is...um...it's when you care more for someone else than you do for yourself. Well, it's not just that, it's...it's when someone is...a part of you."

Well, we all love to make our lives sound more dramatic and far more important, so I suspect most of the people here to fabricate what 'love' is. Most definitions of course being incredibly exaggerated, perhaps euphoric.

Without the science to make my self sound smarter then I really am -

Love is a life support for reality. Life is not about love, and anyone that says this should slap them self because I'm pretty sure they stuck there dick in at least fifteen people by the time they put some thought into 'love.' (Forgive me, I'm just cynical, bitter, and above all I don't have a Huskie plushie.)

Theories say it's a chemical release, which should be a tad obvious since basically every way how the brains function is releasing f*cking chemicles. Example - What's lust? the urge to fuck something, How? a chemical release. Now hopefully we can all realize saying 'love is a chemical imbalance.' Is as helpful as saying the sun is bright.

Love is something that's far too much judged. Something which the morons in the world like to say only few groups of people are capable of. Such bull shit, patience testing quotes I have heard -

'Gay's will seem like they love each other. they'll kiss and hug each other but they'll never actually feel love, gay people can't feel love. :('

'Animals don't feel love.' (Even though humans are animals?)

So what is love in my opinion? It's like a euphoria, and it's not exclusive to only one species. We can't judge how important love is, or if it even matters. All I say is I'd prefer to live in a world with love, as abstract and artificial as it may be then one without it.

Or maybe these are just the ramblings of a confused and irrational bitter guy. =l

Love is a strong emotion that is really too complicated to describe. It's the realisation of someone who you can care about completely and firmly for exactly who they are regardless of their flaws.

Now that that is out of the way, what do you think love is? Is it some deep spiritual connection? A gimmick to sell chocolate? or something else all together?
My god, I hate you with all of my physical being! Almost my sole purpose for coming in to this thread was to say "Baby Don't Hurt Me....." RAWR!

That said, I think love is a combination of biochemical reactions, and certain amount of care for another person. I personally define love as caring more about the other person's happiness than your own.

From a relationship standpoint, this can have extremely negative side effects if the other person decides to take advantage of the person in love, but if the feeling is reciprocal, then it can lead to an extremely happy and ideally long-lasting relationship. That's pretty rare though.

Lust doesn't per se have to be a part of love.

Not always. There is unrequited (one-sided) love. It is an incredibly painful experience for both parties. There is little happiness to be found. It almost never ends well.

In these trying times of economic crisis, love is something that will put a hole in your wallet!.
If love puts a hole in your wallet, it's not love.

Does that count as love?

It's all in your head. Sure, it's real, but it's still a purely biological process- not some spiritual connection. That doesn't make it less like love though.

DON'T HURT ME NO MORE.

Absolutely. Person A loves and would do anything for person B, but person B simply does not feel the same way about person A for one reason or another. Maybe person B just likes person A as a friend. Maybe person B loves someone else. Maybe person B does not even know who person A is. Unrequited love is not the mutual love of which you speak, but it is still love.

DC Talk put it best.
"Love is a Verb"

Love is a desire to see another happy and following through on that in an attempt for the best for that person.

EDIT: People sometimes do things the person being loved doesn't like. Like a mother disciplining a child.
Its important to teach a kids there are consequences, but kids don't like it.
