A little while ago a found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-fAxN-dL_E on, well, youtube. And it got me thinking about it.
What KIND of game is Pokemon? And what does the rest of Pokemon mean to you?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This thought has been lurking in the back of my mind for some time now. Not only as a game but what does Pokemon mean to the average computer player? So many of us play the game but when it's spoken about in a common area it always seems to be shunned upon.
Some people say Pokemon is an RPG, others say a turn based strategy, many more say a child?s game.
If Pokemon is an RPG, then should we have different endings? Should we be allowed to have choices made infamous in games like Fable? Then again choices aren?t a major ingredient, as World of Warcraft is an RPG and goes without this element.
For turn based strategies this is only a small element in the games. I have seen many areas (such as battle.net and the Pokemon World Championship) which utilize the core battlings.
I struggle to think what Pokemon means to me. The computer game itself is filled with data and scenarios which should be admired. On the surface the system does seem childish, full of loop-holes and world wide mockeries and references, which may be its major downfall.
We all have our own thoughts on this game, whether it be the best starter or the best generation, or which are your favourite six pokemon.
