Seriously, though, the only thing anime as a whole has in common is art style. Every story is different and there's enough variation in there for people who like/can stand the art style to enjoy. Successful troll is definately successful. Grats.

by your logic, assuming 100% of people in Japan like Anime, only 0.39% of the world likes Anime.

if you're going to say that the popularity of anime is based entirely on the population of Japan then anime must not be very popular.

for the record, I'm not really pro/con anime, I just felt I should plant some facts to this argument.

lol i was just stirring the troll. and it wouldnt be .39% as 100% of japan dont watch anime. and also thats the worlds population of 6.79 billion, including all 3rd world countries that cant even watch movies to begin with, also add the significantly less population that watches real movies. so the % wouldnt be that low(also note that anime is alot more popular in western cultures than u think)

Well... Blue Seed is kind of like injecting serotonin into your brain using a rusty needle the size of Texas but still suffers from saying each others names too often in the english version at least. But it's still pretty cool. FLCL was a real rush, totally random and crazy and wtf and so forth but it's rather short and sometimes shallow. Cowboy Beebop overall was an enjoyable show, with great characters, interesting dialog, good voice acting (for the most part), but the ending makes me want to punch kittens. In the face. Hellsing just really cranks out the awesome factor so hard that your face explodes from the impact of awesomeness, and you don't always know why or how it's so awesome, it just is.
And that's what's so great about anime. Somewhere along the line I got distracted and left some out but oh well. For political reasons I'll say there's some other good ones out there too. Have a nice day.

I like Anime mostly because all of western TV is bat shit retarded, and when it's not, it's pretty much the same thing over again. How is there so many cop shows? Seriously? Now, I love House and many other shows, but the fact that there's no full story, it's just not very memorable.

But seriously, Reality TV shows are popular. Are you telling me that the entire medium of Anime (which includes thousands of genres) is worse? The fact remains that Anime incompases so many genres that you really need to get lucky with your choice. Just because an anime is popular does not mean you'll like it. Same with any western show. Also, from the sounds of it, you either started watching those animes part way through or your not the most alert person. Code Geass gets very plot twisty, but if you've watched it from the beginning, you'll get it.

I'm not saying that Anime doesn't have it's share of repeats, but overall, Anime has a lot more depth to it. That's probably a combination of it generally having an actual story and them being around for so long.

Yea, you lost me at the part in bold. I'm just gonna say right here that generalizing of ANY type is bad, and saying that about all western TV, that's it's either retarded or samey, just shows you don't know anything about it. Since everyone else in this topic keeps posting their anime lists trying to convert us non-believers, I'm gonna do the same for TV shows.

Breaking Bad (seriously, if you only watch ONE show on this list, let it be this one. It is the best show I have ever seen, and for what it's worth, I watch A LOT of TV)

And those are just off the top of my head, and there really is a little bit of everything. Also, only one of those really qualifies as a "cop show" and that's Justified, but it's a pretty unique spin on an admittedly played out idea.

Oh, no man. Many western TV shows are fucking awesome. I'm more referring to the lack of story. Or at least the lack of variety with story. Also, when I typed that, I was thinking about reality TV shows a lot, at least in the "bat shit retarded" department. Although, to be fair, Japanese reality TV shows are usually really fucked up. Frankly, I can't understand how so many people are obsessed with Japan. I enjoy my fair share of anime, but that's about all I want to have to do with the country.

Still, of the shows you've mentioned, I only recognize one as science fiction. I wish more western TV would do more original settings. Cartoons still got it, at least.
