solar. They are not far from releasing a thin plastic panel that acts like a solar panel but is flexable, light, and most importantly cost about 1/10th as much as traditional solar panels. Although geothermal energy is pretty promising too.

My uncle uses the gasses that come off of cow manure to power his barn
Wow and I was just kidding!
Livestock feces are actually a decent source of power. This is from http://www.helium.com/items/722908-can-power-be-produced-from-pet-feces?page=2

1) Pacific Gas and Electric. They are teaming with farms throughout California to use animal waste to create electricity.

2) Portland General Electric is partnering with dairy farms in Oregon to also convert animal waste to electricity.

3) The U. S. Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Department of Development are partnering the "digester" program in Ohio.

Solar is preety universal.
Wind isnt too bad a little inefficient though.
Fuision(if the world ever gets off its ass) is by far the most efficient and most cost effective renewable eco-friendly energy out there.

Well there is the portable Nuclear generator http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/earth/4273386.html like that or more efficient solar, if we reach 80% efficiency with solar and can make it cheap then everything else is obsolete anywhere the sun shines.

I'd like to choose solar energy and like to see some solar "farms" being built

I heard about a danish guy (yay Denmark) who is trying to generate "Wave-power", where you let some platforms float on the water annd they should be able to generate a fair amount of energy.. i dont know if its the best one, but i think its the one that should be used more, because we do have alot of water ;)

Best solution with current technology: nuclear, yes it has some risks (mainly the spent fuel) but other than that it's the most efficient and clean powersource we have.

Once they work out the issues with transferring energy wireless over large distances then orbital solar plants are a realistic option.
The most advanced solarpanels available are ~40 efficient and with no atmosphere to disperse the light you can get loads of energy from it. The trouble at the moment is getting that power to the ground from orbit.

There's this place called Sahara, okay? And then there's this thing called solar panels, okay?

Care to add one and one together?
