The obvious choice is Edwin Starr, but I am partial to The Green Fields of France by the Dropkick Murphys. Beautiful song.

Also, see Ashes of the Wake by Lamb of God, as it has no lyrics besides a U.S. Marine detailing exactly what the fuck is wrong with the situation in Baghdad right now. Pretty good anti-war song, amirite?

Im surprised by the lack of John Lennon in this thread.
I think that has more to do with the fact that Some Time In New York City was a shit album, as all his prior political tunes were more about the societal implications of music then relating to war (Imagine could be called an anti-War song, but it's more or less Communist Fun Party).
Oh, and Gimme Shelter.

Hero of War by rise against isnt bad
Damn. Audience of One as well by Rise?
actually, i think Audience is more about the American Government (or to be exact,President) Than war. As it has deforestation, Closing the borders, bad treatment of refugees etc.

I think you can just say that Hero of War is a really good one, straight to the point.
plus they just released a video clip for it, which is about the US troops.
I was thinking of Hero of War too, but it's kinda...Well telling the story of the solider not protesting about war (at least it seems that way to me). So Was in too minds about suggesting, still a damn good tune

War! Hurhhhhh! Good God Y'all! What is it good for?

EDIT: Ninja'd =(

Someone had to, I don't actually know who sang it but regardless it's still pretty good.

I also like the Green Day/U2 song that I also can't remember the name of, it's not exactly anti-war but it had a similar message.
The saints are coming is that you're thinking of, but it's a cover I believe

I'll go with "with god on our side" by Bob Dylan which is about the hypocrisy of war and ho people use God to justify war

BURZUM - War
That's hardly anti war though:p

I'll go with Bad Religion's cover of 99 Red Balloons, followed by John Lennon's Imagine and as the closer I'll say Metallica's One.

Which song that you know of strikes you as the most potent Anti-War song? It can be anything from Oh Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye to Bruce Springsteens Born In The USA or Edwin Starr's War. So please if you have a song you consider to be a good anti-war song post the name of it and why you think it is a good one.
You already said it, "Born in the USA." Not because it's necessarily the best, but because a fair number of people don't know it's an anti-war song, and think it's patriotic, because all they hear is the line "Born in the USA," and not the rest of it. It's hilarious when you clarify that it's anti-war, and to see their reactions.

What Nixon thought it was a patriotic song? Is there footage of him when he finds out it isn't?
