Blasphemies.

Depends on genre you want, there are too many to write every one of them.

Doom 1/2, Half Life, Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Diablo 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, Bioshock, System Shock 2, Thief (all), Team Fortress 2, CS/S, Dungeon Keeper 2...

As you can notice, most of them is old. There is a reason for that, you know.

Morrowind, but you probably already have that. Go get Fallout 1 and 2 for like 10 bucks online and glorify yourself in the best 10 bucks you ever spent.

How about getting The Orange Box. Pretty good bang for your buck getting a couple games all wrapped into one.

The Sims.

There is also Descent II but I haven't played it since I was a kid so I can't remember if it was good or not. Even then I prefer to game on consoles.

Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. Great game from the makers of the first two Fallouts. Steampunk, isometric, open-world game.

Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate 1/2. Great RPGs from Bioware, based in Forgotten Realms.

Starcraft. You probably have it but I need not explain why its amazing.

Planescape: Torment. Never played it, but its supposed to be one of the best wRPGs ever created.

and the king of all PC games (...for me): Grim Fandango. The master of all adventure games.

I play a lot of warcraft 3 custom maps.. GOO Castle Fight

Also if you like city builders Pharaoh or Dwarf Fortress are great.

Diablo 2 for a hack n slash, and if you wanna go beyond D2 download the Median Patch, it changes all the skill sets, add thousands of new items, different tiers and tons of new areas for new extra bosses and challenges.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is great too.

Starcraft fun RTS with a serious following.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is gold also.

As you might have noticed none of these games will chug on you pc.

All the games up already listed are pretty good (except Crysis) but these are my favorites.
Oh yeah, and StarCraft, I've heard that's pretty good too.

I've heard wonderful things about Company of Heroes. I never really liked it much, but most people I know who've played it love it.

Get STALKER Clear Sky (Get Shadow of Chernobyl too if you can find it on sale anywhere, and play it before Clear Sky - CS will seem to make much more sense then). It's basically Fallout 3 without stat-building elements and more Russians. Just toss in some more fun and some space-time anomalies that can tear you to shreds and that's STALKER.

Just remember that it can be mind-numbingly hard. You can only survive a few measly bullets before having to use a medkit, you attract bullets like flies to honey, your guns jam almost constantly, you can only carry so much (And the amount you carry affects how long you can travel for before needing a rest) and this isn't even the hardest difficulty.

Doom
Half-Life
The Longest Journey
American McGee's Alice
Red Faction
