I play a lot of warcraft 3 custom maps.. GOO Castle Fight

Also if you like city builders Pharaoh or Dwarf Fortress are great.

Diablo 2 for a hack n slash, and if you wanna go beyond D2 download the Median Patch, it changes all the skill sets, add thousands of new items, different tiers and tons of new areas for new extra bosses and challenges.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is great too.

Starcraft fun RTS with a serious following.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is gold also.

As you might have noticed none of these games will chug on you pc.
WOO!! Someone else in existance who has played Pharoah, i thought i was the only one, i liked Caeser III too, it was basically the same game though, one Egyptian and the other Roman.

My faves are BioShock, Oblivion, Sonic Adventure, Shenmue II and GTA SA.
Although my favourite game of 2009 so far has been Dead Space, and i think it was because i wasnt expecting anything from it, so i was impressed by most of what it threw at me.
Biggest disappointment so far this year i would say has been FarCry 2, not a bad game just not as good as i hoped for.

Battlezone 1 and 2 (if you can find them). Really old, barely ever heard of, but tons of fun. The first Action/Strategy combo game that I have ever heard of that didnt suck.

Dont forget to patch both up to current, without the patches, they can get kind of dull, but with, you can get into the modding aspect if you get bored.

Also, I have fun with Garry's Mod, Morrowind, and Freelancer.

I'd say the Unreal bundle.

not sure if anywhere near you sells it but at the gamestop there is an Unreal bundle that has ALL unreal tournament games except Unreal Tournament 3 for $5

I bought it as soon as I saw it. Amazing games, all of them.

That is quite the amazing deal, and well worth it cause of how great the games are.

But when it comes to PC gaming i'd have to recommend you (the OP) to go back 10 or so years to when Point-And-Click Adventure games was at its peak, and test out Monkey Island (1-3 are awesome).

And if that doesnt float your boat i'd say Heroes of Might and Magic III, easily the best in the series atleast according to me.

how about soldiers heroes of ww2 (kinda like the commandos series but is not isometric and you can blow everything up) it great company of heroes doenst hold a candle to it.

and maybe try the sequel faces of war its more focused on action than sneacking around like the first one.

I think the unreal bundle I bought was called Unreal Anthology.
just in case anyone cares

I also recommend any game from the Civilization series.
There is a Civilization IV Gold Edition which has the game and all the expansions for a good price. If you see it thats the one to buy. But any Civ game is good regardless.

I also recommend Counter-Strike: Scource and Day of Defeat: Scource.

both amazing games

Get STALKER Clear Sky (Get Shadow of Chernobyl too if you can find it on sale anywhere, and play it before Clear Sky - CS will seem to make much more sense then). It's basically Fallout 3 without stat-building elements and more Russians. Just toss in some more fun and some space-time anomalies that can tear you to shreds and that's STALKER.

Just remember that it can be mind-numbingly hard. You can only survive a few measly bullets before having to use a medkit, you attract bullets like flies to honey, your guns jam almost constantly, you can only carry so much (And the amount you carry affects how long you can travel for before needing a rest) and this isn't even the hardest difficulty.
Quoting for emphasis. Must have FPS for serious gamer.

Do you mean ever or that are current? I assume the latter.

Left 4 Dead if you have friends or Fallout 3 if you don't

Without a doubt if you haven't played Orange Box then you should do so, one of the best games made so far!

Also i think Grim Fandango was a great game if you can get a copy, neither are new but are worth looking into if you haven't played them.

Kotor 1/2 are also great games but i assume that everybody has played them.

Day of The Tentacle. It's over in 4 hours, but they're the best 4 hours of your life.

I still play Pharaoh, had first seen it at a friends place on a demo disk, we couldn't even save on it. Bought it online like a year and a half ago, its great when you have some time to burn. The levels without actual objectives and massive land mass are great. I don't have the expansions sadly, not quite sure what they add.
