I'm just going to say Bethesda and BioWare and leave it at that.

I've clocked well over 2000 hours of play on Oblivion, played Morrorwind so much I started to dream in dull brown 'realism', Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 are huge towers of awesome in my gaming history, Mass Effect was the plane that crashed into those towers then rebuilt them out of Awesome and Fuck Yeah.

Single player- Ocarina of time was the greatest game ever for me.
Mulitplayer- Team fortress 2, no question. Been playing non-stop for over a year now.

I'd have to say right now probably Mass Effect. I ignored it for years and then only recently I decided to get an xbox and pick up a copy. I couldn't stop playing it or thinking about it for a whole week until I beat it. On so many levels this game was just awesome from the smooth soundtrack to the intense fights.

Wario Land 3 for me. For me it's the defining platformer, one of the best (and best reviewed-98% on Gamestop, even though that...doesn't mean much....)games ever made. Or Pokemon Gold and Silver.

Wow, it disappoints me how many current-gen games are listed here. This generation has been great, but it seems like no one remembers the older generations anymore. They need more recognition, dammit!
Maybe it's not that nobody remembers previous generations, but that those games have been surpassed. Beyond nostalgia, is there really a case to be made for something like Doom being better than Halo? Or for Pacman being better than Splinter Cell?

I'm gonna say Shenmue and Metal Gear Solid. For Shenmue it was a game that frustrated the semen out of my balls and yet I still loved it so much. For MGS, well to this day I have never ever played and completed a game as much as I have that game. A couple times on PSX, once on PC, another time on an emulator, twice on the GC, and I'll probably buy it on PSN and beat it again lol.

Just to butt in Giz made an article on nostalgia. We as kids liked dumb shit. Think of all the shitty games you liked as a kid, I know I have quite a few. Revisiting some lame shows or games made me see the lame crap I liked back then

Baldurs's Gate 2. Just perfection incarnate.

The characters, the world, the plot, the gameplay, the music, the art, the freaking awesome box/manual, the mod-ability, oh so awesome.

Okami, very good game, replayed it a few months ago and the magic was still there, it just feels so unique.

For me, it's Shadow of the Colossus. Played it for the first time many years ago, and have never regretted it.
Same with me.

I still can't put my finger on why I love that game so much, but I keep coming back to it. I'll treasure it forever.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I suppose mass effect, Ive put more hours into it then any other non mmo game... probably... maybe.... could be I guess, hell I dont know, I might have put more into heroes of might and magic V and its expansions but mass effect is one of the few rpg type games Ive been able to replay and so far Ive gone tho it 3 times and Im thinking of a 4th

actually maybe the dawn of war series has more hours... I played a hell of alot of it, played the first 2 at least twice each and bead dark crusade with every race and even beat soulstorm with a few races

well either way anything Ive listed I love

So hard...

Multiplayer - Team Fortress 2 (been playing for 2 years now!)

Single Player - Morrowind, Half Life 2, Physconauts - I'm undecided between the three each have their own little bits of perfection in them.

Well, noone matched BG2 in terms of story, characters, world and the amount of content. Even combat is still pretty strategic and not that bad. Noone surpassed that and if someones sez ME2 it makes me so, so sad.

Ocarina of Time. Easily. Super Mario Bros. 3 comes in second.

On a slightly related note, this is the most overdone Escapist thread ever.
