Not your favorite/ourite game, not the game you play the most. The best game. I recently played (and completed in one sitting) Portal, and I have to say I'm jumping on the bandwagon that that was the most interesting/fun/challenging in the right way/satisfying gaming experience I have ever had.
I won't play it again (it wasn't mine) because I don't need to, I don't need to do all the challenges because the first run through was enough. I love FF7 and FFT and tend towards RPGs in general but as much as I like those games Portal is just awesome in a different more perfect way.

So after that spiel, what is the best game you have ever played?

I definitely agree with Portal, it is by far one of the best games out there.

I'd also say Oblivion, because of the sheer amount of openness and things to do, and that the complexities of interacting with people and the world make the game feel more real and immersive than any other game I've played.

Portal is my number one, but the ME games, Bioshock, Split/Second, FF7, DJ Hero, and quite a few others are up there.

Thief II: The Metal Age.

Why are there no stealth games better than a game that was made in 2000? Because Thief II set the bar unfairly high, that's why.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Wind Waker (I can't choose between the two) or Final Fantasy VI.

I consider them the best games I've ever played, as they are my favourites. As for the most well-crafted.. Final Fantasy XIII had the best production values I've seen in a game.
Sadly big production values don't equate to a good game (although FF as a whole dropped after VI).
Though I think that Majora's Mask was better than OoT and WW personally.
I'm tempted to say Majora's Mask. The atmosphere was amazing, it got you into the game kind of quickly and never really let up. Plus it was my first Zelda game.
...Yeah I kinda got into LoZ a bit late huh?

assassins creed 2. kamikazi leap from tower onto someone with a blade on your wrist (and hopefully in their throat) love everything about it. except how the bastards at ubisoft messed up the ending when ezio suddenly gets a sense of morality. and decides killing the man who executed his family is wrong.

Team Fortress 2 is the best game I've ever played. I've played over 300 hours of it, but it's still just as fun as the first few back in the days before the medic update.

GTA 3.

I remember watching it at my cousins in amazement, at the time I'd never seen anything like it. It was as equally dope when I got myself a copy, and me and my brother would do a mission each and watch each other play. I'm as excited as a small child at Christmas when a new GTA game is released, but even with all that excitement, nothing can compare to how excited I was when I bought GTA 3, and how much I loved playing it.

I have to say that it's Red Faction Guerrilla.

I picked it up a couple days ago and haven't seen daylight since. It's just such a satisfyingly awesome game.

Tell me, have you ever driven a truck into a military building, gotten out of said truck, and blown up rigged explosives that were on the truck which consequently collapses the building and kills everyone inside IN ANY OTHER GAME?

If you understood that run on sentence, then you should have a taste of what RF:G is like. Incredible.

Not as late as me. Wind Waker was my first, but it came with OoT as a bonus disc on the Gamecube, and thus I fell in love.

I actually thought that FFXIII was really good, but I think I'm one of the few people on the Escapist who thought so. It was certainly the best since IX in my opinion.
Eh, I'm a nostalgia freak too, so you have to factor that in as well. To be fair, XIII certainly is the best looking JRPG I've seen, and the music is quite good as well.
But then again Kefka is my all time favorite villain so VI gets extra non-counting points from me.

Also, while Majora's Mask was my first, it was practically half-way through the Gamecube's life-span so take from that what you will.
