Company of heroes. Only game that made me wow so much at the time. The sound was just awesome when you played it for the first time and had it loud. It also felt so grand and immersive. But also had the tactical depth like no other real online rts.

Too bad one gets bored of playing throught the campaign for the 8th time, and getting kangaroo/inf rushed online.

And the dev's are more interrested in making Korean MMO's

I have to say that it's Red Faction Guerrilla.

I picked it up a couple days ago and haven't seen daylight since. It's just such a satisfyingly awesome game.

Tell me, have you ever driven a truck into a military building, gotten out of said truck, and blown up rigged explosives that were on the truck which consequently collapses the building and kills everyone inside IN ANY OTHER GAME?

If you understood that run on sentence, then you should have a taste of what RF:G is like. Incredible.
Most games do that :p

Like, for example, Men of War, which is my favourite game.
But have you done it on a fictional Mars while watching that building crumble realistically to the ground; brick by brick?

I thought not.

In no way is the destruction in Red Faction: Guerilla 'realistic'. Fictional Mars (especially in the way that RF:G did) is quite possibly the most boring setting that I've ever had the pleasure to be in. And it's not brick by brick.

I don't no why I'm instigating, but what the hell :p

1. It's damn more realistic than any other destruction engine currently implemented in games.

2. It's not literally brick by brick, but it's damn close.

3. This is opinion; I actually like the setting personally.

I'll let you have the last word and then stop before this turns into a flamewar =/

MGS as a whole, but if I have to pick one game, I'd say Peace Walker. Throughout a week or two, I got 89 hours in. Probably 6-10 were around it being in sleep mode. Still, that's amazing for a PSP game. I'm still not even done. I got the Monster Hunter missions I gotta S rank, the rest of the vehical extra ops, Custom AI Weapons, etc etc. So yea, I'd say Peace Walker is the best game I've ever played. I'm still playing it. ^_^

lol ok.
1. It is better than any other game that I've seen, but it isn't realistic, which is what I was arguing.

2. I'd hardly say that it's damn close to being brick by brick. It's more 'wall hunk by wall hunk'

3. I find it dreary and repititive, but to each his own.

Alrighty, done now :p

Oh Jesus, thats pretty hard. I don't think I can name just one. Portal is definately up there for reason that all of you have said before. X-COM: UFO Defense has to be in the list of "Best" as well. Its hard to make strategy fun and deep as well as that tense and nerve wracking. Also, I have yet to see a game top Saint Row 2's complete open-ended customization options. I don't think games that call theselves RPGs can hold a candle to SR2's role playing experience when I am LITTERALLY inserting myself into the game via the character that I spent 2 hours on to look and dress exactly like me.

EDIT: Oh, wait, nvm. I do have my perfect game, Knights of the Old Republic. Perfect story, perfect character arcs, perfect combat, perfect weapons and upgrading systems, perfect everything more or less, and better writing than the movies (or at least Eps I, II, III, & IV)

I am currently tied between several games at the moment.

Resident Evil 4.
I loved this game to pieces. I can't recall how many times I've completed it.
Also, the dialogue aint half bad for a Resident Evil game.

Portal.
Well what can I say? It's Portal!

Pokémon.
Yes. I consider Pokémon to be one of the greatest games I've played even though the formula has never changed in the past 15 years.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
It's funny. It's colourful. It's violent. It's fun. It's beautiful.

So difficult to choose
But I'm gonna have to go with Call of Duty 2, I've played through the campaign soooo many times and I've spent soooo many hours on the perfectly balanced online.
