It was probably Portal 2, but I've still got a ton of big 2011 games I haven't played yet.

I really want to say Skyrim, as I have put more time into it so far, but I bought Rock of Ages the other day, and, well, no game has ever made me laugh so hard. It's just awesome!

Mine is a toss up between Skyrim and TOR for games this year.

Now, if we're talking games we've played this year and not just games released this year, then it's a three way toss up between TOR, Skyrim and Mount & Blade.

I really don't think I can decide between the three, but if I have to...

I would have to say Skyrim.

I just recently played Deadly Premonition. In the reputation it has, that being 50% of those who play it hate it and the other 50% loving it, I fall into the second category. Perhaps it's partially due to my love for Twin Peaks, and most things related to it. But, then again, what's not to love about an open world Twin Peaks inspired horror game? Besides the controls?

Skyrim; I've been playing it for an unknown number of hours now and I've still done next to nothing by the looks of it; I've been up late the last few nights going "just one more quest then I'll go to bed."

inFamous 2

The ice launch power alone made it more enjoyable than any other game I played this year.

I have to give my personal game of the year to Skyrim, but like others on this thread, Rayman: Origins holds a special place in my heart. It's just so god damn good. I could write a whole damn thread (and I just might) on why it's not just the best platformer of this generation, but why it stands shoulder-to-shoulder, if not above, the classics of the genre. Classic Mario & Genesis-era Sonic have, for the first time ever, had their crowns legitimately challenged by someone other than each other.

I do agree Rayman Origins is awesome. Although best traditional platformer this generation? Hmmm. Sorry. I think Donkey Kong Country Returns had that one from me.

Anyways. Best game I played all year. hmmm.

Skyward Sword is first to mind. But I'm also gonna name Xenoblade and Nier. Both of which are exceptional games.

Originality: Portal 2 (yes, I know about Portal 1, but part 2 is still special)
Story: The Witcher 2 (or rather how the told is incorporated into the world)
Overall: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

THE ELDER SCROLLS 5:SKYRIM is by far the best

Although
Dead Space 2, Batman:Arkham City, Portal 2, Bastion, and Deus Ex:Human Revolution also all stand out as fantastic masterfully well crafted Video Games. (In no particular order)

I also really enjoyed Assassin's Creed:Revelations and Dragon Age 2, but those both have too many problems for me to consider them to be "The best game, I've played all year".

NOTE - I only considered games released in 2011 to count in this matter....

Persona 4... What? You said played not came out.

UMVC3 probably takes best of the year for me simply because i've played so much of it. Deus Ex is up there as well.

EDIT: Not wait, scratch that my forgetful arse has forgotten Bastion, that goes just under Persona 4 in terms of best(nothing is better than Persona 4 btw.)

Special mention goes to Ass Creed Rev, because stabbing some guy in the back before slipping off into a crowd while he's like "what the fuck just happened?!" is awesome. The singleplayer is still a bit meh.

Hmm.... Either Disgaea 4:A Promise unforgotten, DEUS EX HR, Fate/stay night, Fate/extra, Parasite Eve 3rd birthday, Persona 2 PSP, or FF13.

....Obligatory Skyrim.

Terraria.

Skyrim is very close, and TOR has been a lot of fun too, but I've clocked the most hours with Terraria and I'm still addicted.
