Thinking about getting a handheld, as I seem to need one more and more, so I would like to test some waters and find out, what is the best DS game ever??
If you've got the money and don't mind needing a FAQ to beat some of the missions, I'd suggest JUMP! Ultimate Stars. Whether or not you like anime, it's not really my thing, it's a fun Super Smash Bros. style fighting game with pretty much every manga that Jump has had represented in some way.
The World Ends With You. YMMV, but if you don't really mind JRPG tropes being tossed around, and once you deal with the difficulty curve, it's a heck of a lot of awesome.
IMO I think it was Pokemon Platinum.nowadays it's slow compared to Pokemon white or black, but you won't get as much bang for your buck, only heartgold and soul silver come close (same goes for diamond and pearl)
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker. It's basically how pokemon should be after all these years and with todays technology.
And by making this post I have found they've made a sequal. And to illustrate my reccomendation of the series, I will now go and buy it.
No idea, really. I did quite enjoy LEGO Battles and Age of Empires 2 for the DS. They're pretty fun if you like strategy games.
There was another game that I quite liked, but I can't remember the name. You fly planes around and shoot things, do missions and so on. Really fun, and is 2D. If I remember what it's called, I'll post it.

One of the many Pokemon games or I'd cast my vote for Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. That is a game with great story, gameplay, characters, everything wraps up nicely and the ending is fantastic.
If you do buy a DS, you owe it to yourself to check out Ghost Trick
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia or Etrian Odyssey III. Awesome games in their own right.
The former is a metroidvania, and really fun. It's probably the most difficult of the RPG-ish vanias. Etrian Odyssey III, meanwhile, is a pretty oldschool dungeon crawler, but with a lot of great ideas and content. I absolutely adore it.
It's too difficult for some people, but I don't really see the issue with it
Oh god, how can you ask me to pick just one? That's like asking to pick only one of your favorite foods to eat for the rest of your life, it's too hard a choice!
Any of the Pokemon games are good, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV DS, The World Ends with You, any of the Phoenix Wright games, Super Mario 64 DS, Yoshi's Island DS, I could go on and on...
Nine hours, Nine People, Nine Doors. The plot goes a bit wonky at the end, but it's the most fun I've ever had with my DS. It's mostly an escape the room type puzzler.
Depends entirely on what kind of games you like to play, personal favourites of mine are the Ace Attorney series, Pokemon, The World Ends With You, Professor Layton series, Elite Beat Agents, Zelda's re-releases, Hotel Dusk, Mario Kart...
Different strokes for different folks.
It's got a fantastic and witty story, and the most insanely fun battle system I have ever seen in a game. There are no random battles, you choose when you want to fight, and what you want to fight, and how many at once. And you will WANT to get into fights because of how fun they are, and you WILL want to make it harder for yourself to get even MORE rewards from each battle.
It's one of the best games I've played, and definitely the best on the system.
Other great gems include:
Shin Megami Tensai: Devil Survivor (a really good Tactics RPG)
Kingdom hearts Re:coded (It's pretty damn fun)
The Pheonix Wright series (If you're into point and click adventure games)
Ghost trick (a REALLY good point and click adventure/mystery game)
Custom Robo arena (Lame kiddy story, AMAZING and fun customizable robot combat)
