In my experience, your best weapon is just to ignore them. Trolls are after reactions, good or bad. So no matter how hard you criticize them or praise them, they'll still take it. Whatever it takes to bump their threads and give their posts more attention. So just don't contribute at all. It's hard, but it's better than contributing the problem. Unless you're absolutely CONVINCED you've got some way to troll them back, the best reaction is no reaction at all.Tom Milner said:

Now that you've successfully ignored the troll what do you do now, his post is still there and other people might rage at him. So how do you stop the troll?

That said, I always love the way some of them are treated here by the Escapist community. I remember some cases of a beautiful dance of sarcasm and smugness. Basically umad, but over 9000. It's wonderful.GeorgW said:

*Okay, I know there were some jokes in there because I like to be funny, but the thing about the Trollies is that you burn them worse than they can you by being witty, passive, and ultimately the better man. Trolls don't have power. They have idiocy. Make them look like what they are and people soon realize that they have nothing to use against you, that YOU are the wall of logic THEY don't get, CAN'T get. The more they rampage, the more you let them make an ass of themselves and receive consequences for it. Let them expend all that energy, and never EVER take them seriously. Once you realize just how stupid it is, their shouts are nothing. Absolutely nothing.
