Kindle is a platform. You can turn pages forward or backward.
In that case the best written game is Shakespeare's Complete Collection.

Prefers Planescape: Torment to Shakespeare. ::runs away::

Planescape: Torment by a long way. It just exudes brilliant plot, writing, narrative and characters. And the fact it keeps all these elements at such a high quality across a huge game involving so many characters and encounters is just incredible. People are impressd that Sands of Time can tell a consistantly good tale through 10 hours of gameplay. Torment does one over 100 hours and several tens of thousands of pages of script.

Although I'd also like to mention pretty much anything else like Torment where Chris Avellone has been involved. That is:
KOTOR 2
Fallout 2 / New Vegas (maybe Fallout 1 as well but I don't think so)
NWN 2 / Mask of the Betrayer
Icewind Dale 2
Alpha Protocol.

Ragnar Tornquist of The Longest Journey fame is also doing a good job. But I can't forgive him for doing crap MMOs for the last few years.

I would prob have to say:

Warcraft 3 - Just had a interesting backstory as well as memorable char's.

Mass Effect 1 & 2 - One of the few games I've stuck with just for the story.

Legacy of Kain - I've played all of these games and the story + char's made one of the best games I've played to date

KotoR 1 - Loved the twists and story with that game, Number 2 wasn't as good, however I just read there was a patch out for it to fix a lot of plot holes, so might need to re-install it and give it another try.

Depends on what you despise about D and D. The magic system in Planescape: Torment is that same annoying memorizing magic system but besides that Planescape: Torment is as much D and D to me as KOTOR games were. Even though Planescape is a D and D setting, it is very differentf from the other D and D campaign settings. I mean if you hate elves, dwarves, and all the Forgotten realm type shit then there is nothing in Planescape: torment to annoy you. I'm guessing since you have an Mass Effect avatar picture that you probably like the KOTOR games. So to explain it, Planescape: Torment plays like a 2D KOTOR game.

I'm throwing up Bioshock, personally. If not that, then Mass Effect, either of the series.

But really, Bioshock's writing was fantastic. I'll skip the quoting of the golden lines, you all know what I mean.

Agreed. Shakespeare doesn't have succubi, thus 1:0 for Planescape :p.

Depends on what you don't like about DnD. Combat mechanics? Classes? Lore?
The story is absolutely worth trying even if you despite DnD. Character development is different compared to 'classic' DnD e.g. Neverwinter Nights, therefore it might not be that bad for you.

Knights of the Old Republic. The sequel was great too (especially when Kreia talked), but come on, that twist in the first one was AWESOME.

Am I the only one that thought BioShock's story was hugely overrated, it had an interesting setting with a neat plot twist, but the story itself was pretty boring and telling most of it through audio logs seemed lazy.

Would you kindly respond nicely?

This times ten thousand. I swear that that game will not only change your outlook on life, but it will leave you disappointed that you will never come across another game like it (except maybe Arcanum?)

Dude, she is a CELIBRATE Succubi who runs a Brothel for intellectual lusts. In other words, talking not actual sex. That would be awesome, a place to talk to pretty women about intellectual topics.

i would say that it is most definitely the .hack haseo trilogy (with anime tie-in, if u intend to play, watch anime first because it will make more sense). the whole game is set up like a mystery, it was all very well thought out before the trilogy was even made. its on the ps2 if you havent played it and dont have a ps2, emulator works well now.

in second, mass effect 1 & 2, no need to explain.

i would say in dead last is final fantasy 13, the characterization is good (mostly) but it seems like decisions were made by drawing pieces of paper out of a hat, it seems very detached and they dont seem to take logical steps. maybe ill give FFX a go, who knows.

The Mass Effect series, of course. I think most people can come to that general consensus, beyond the naysayers and such.

Other than that, I'd say the second Silent Hill. I mean, can you get any more psychological with a main character in a video game?
