for me i have this order of the zelda series

1: majoras mask, although i loved OoT i found this had more of a challenge
2:OoT , the first one i played
3: TP, it was fantastic but was missing something.
4: spirit tracks, was way better than phantom hourglass
5: Wind waker, it was fantastic in everyway but the cell-shading and chibi style got bit too much.

i love all zelda games but these ar the ones i appreciated the most only because i ws too young to appreciate the originals, as i never owned the system.

Currently it's Wind Waker, A Link to the Past(sometimes Twilight Princess) and Spirit Tracks as the three leading ones. Though, I'm yet to finish Ocarina of Time and I still haven't played Majora's Mask or Link's Awakening or Minish Cap for that matter.

Wind Waker and Oracle of Season were amazing. Haven't actually tried to play Twighlight Princess properly, but that maybe up there...

Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past, those are my favorites of the Zelda franchise.

I'm going to have to buck the trend and say Wind Waker was my favourite so far. Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess simply didn't grip me at all... though in fairness, I'm going to re-try them this week and see if I just dismissed them too soon.

Part of it is the aesthetic's, I have to admit. The first Zelda game I fell in love with was Link to the Past, and it had bright greens, cool blues, and was generally quite colourful. Ocarina of Time and Twilight princess put me off quite alot with their overally brown, grey, and relatively dull presentation. Wind Waker keep the old style of colourful and interesting, and added stylisation to it as well.

Another factor is I actually liked the idea of the world being made up of independent islands, and the differences between the islands interested me generally.

But I realise I'm in the minority.

1. OoT, of course. It was just... fun.
2. Link's Awakening because it was the first one I ever played.
3. WW because it tried to bring something new to the series and did it well.

Then a tie between TP, MM, and LttP.

Wind Waker was the best gameplay-wise. While it was a bit of a pain waiting for your boat to get to the Island you needed to be on, but the combat was probably the best in the series.

I'm having a hard time choosing. I've been on an Zelda spree lately, but I'll say Wind Waker, because I just finished a playthrough of that last night, and really, too many people hated based on the art style.

Hmm...I say Ocarina of Time, considering that it is my fave game of all time.

Link to the Past is close to gaming perfection and to me is what a Zelda game should be. I bought it again on GBA and it was still one of the best games I've ever played.

I would go so far as to say to understand gaming history it is in that rare collection of games every gamer should play.

I'm going to break with the consensus here and give my honest feelings about OoT.

(puts on flame-retardant outerwear)

OoT was not that great. This is coming from a Zelda fan from the time I was 6. I had even saved my allowance/birthday money/etc and pre-ordered OoT months in advance because Gamestop (then called Babbage's) had a tie in for a gold cartridge and Link t-shirt. The first half of the game was pretty good, but I feel like it kind of fell apart around the Kakariko Well. I understand that the game was a "milestone" or whatever, but I felt very let down by the latter part of the game, especially the final battle. The puzzles were too easy and the kill-item system with the bosses did a lot to remove the challenge of defeating them.

TP on the other hand, was something else entirely. This was the game that OoT was supposed to be had the N64 possessed the capability of running it. The character design was better in that the characters were more believable while at the same time, allowing for the comic relief that Nintendo titles possess. While the kill-item concept was still present, it was not as blatantly overpowered as in OoT and some of the bosses actually gave me a bit of difficulty. The puzzles were the aspect of the game that gave me the most trouble and got me stuck on pretty much every occasion, forcing me to brainstorm to try and solve them different ways. If this isn't enough of a reason why I prefer TP over OoT, I'll go ahead and say that I haven't had a game give me the sort of feeling I got from TP since I first played Final Fantasy Tactics.

This having been said, I definitely feel that TP is the best entry in the franchise from a developmental standpoint. On the subject of favorite Zelda title based on Nostalgia, that's a toss-up between Adventure of Link and A Link to the Past. A Link to the Past was awesome because it took the first game in the franchise and re-imagined it much like I feel TP did with OoT, but there was something that was just... missing.

Adventure of Link was just incredible. I enjoy that game so much I have it on both the NES and GBA so I can take it with me.
