It's hardly a terrible game but FEAR 3 (I refuse to call it F.3.A.R) is a fairly disappointing game. It's still not a BAD game.
Eh. It was about what I was expecting; I managed to extract a lot of fun from it. A couple of the levels were quite a spectacle too.
Aye, but I have to admit I have almost completely forgotten all about the story already...

and it strikes me as somewhat notable that the game does not put the fear in people's hearts (and dreams) as does that odd glowing fetus pregnant Alma figurine. That one is proper fear condensed, I tell you. Had it not been for that figurine, I'd have sold my copy of "F.3.A.R." (how much longer will we put up with silly names like this and "revelations" or "origins"?) for a fiver.

I always found the DS Zelda games to be the black sheep of the franchise, mainly because there was something about them that felt... off. Like they weren't Zelda games.

However, many others would have a better time agreeing with me for saying Zelda 2 for obvious reasons that I'm just way too lazy to go into.

Prior to Other M, Fusion was said to be the black sheep of the Metroid series. Mainly due to it being much, much more linear than the older titles. However, Team Ninja...

A Sonic RPG was unheard of, but not only did it work, it was also challenging and fun. The game ends on a cliffhanger and we are still awaiting the sequel.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel was utter crap in comparison to the first 2 Fallout games (The latest 2 are in a different direction, but both are good)

I'd have to say Tekken 4. It tried too hard to be innovative. Alot of essential characters were either sidelined or they just became a reskin of another character, it was of a much darker tone than tekken 3 (not necessarily good for the series) and the controls were totally messed up compared to past and future tekken games. The only thing that stood out was the graphix and the voices (although many of the voices kinda sucked)

Sonic Chronicles could've been good, but the battle system was terrible. I actually ended up breaking my stylus in frustration over that fucking thing (and haven't touched the game since either).

THIS is the poster child for consolisation, complete mess of a game. Thanks xbox.
OI! The xbox was sweet.

But yeah, its a black sheep alright. Still quite good though. I just think everyone hated it because the first game set the bar SO GODDAMN HIGH!

OP:
Crash, mind over mutant. Yeah...

Tomb raider angel of darkness - We do not speak of it!

Splinter cell conviction (IMHO) : Yay one of the last few great stealth games has been dumbed down and turned into more of a shooter.

Serious sam 2: Yup, we dont speak of that either.

Well, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts comes to mind as a pretty freaking big change in the franchise, what with the complete doing away of traditional platforming for vehicle creation. That's not a good change. Not at all.

agreed..Banjo Kazooi was alwyas silly..but it was an EPIC kind of silly

nuts and bolts...where the epicness in vehecles? and for crying out loud what did they do to the artstyle?

current gen graphics and they WASTE it
Yeah, i wish it had a 'proper' sequel rather than N&B.
I actually consider nuts and bolts to be more of a spin-off.
It even follows the formula of the other spin-offs in that its called 'Banjo Kazooie: *spin-off title here*'

Though I didn't actually mind the new graphic style of it (except for the changes to the actual character of the... characters. Like mumbo in overalls, he's a shaman not a country bumpkin or greese monkey, or humba in a cow-girl outfit, etc.)

See, I would buy it in a heartbeat if it was just like banjo tooie/kazooie but with that new graphic style. As it is though it really doesn't grab my fancy.

Devil may cry 2, though the gameplay was solid the story wasn't great and some of the design choices made it a bit bland in areas. still playable though.

Super Mario Bros 2 well the non japanese one anyway maybe because it wasnt actually supposed to be a mario game might have something to do with it.

I also always felt Street Fighter 3 was a black sheep probably because of so many editions of street Fighter II that it felt like a franchise all in itself, but even now 3 always feels very different to II,IV or the alpha series no doubt the change of characters accentuated this.

Dawn of War:Soulstorm. Yeah it wasn't that bad but it was still the lowest point in the franchise.
You know a game is the weak link in a series when its greatest contribution is narm-tastic voice acting:
I know what I'm about to say will probably ruffle some feathers, but Donkey Kong 64 was a "black sheep" title for me. I felt Rare went overboard

on item collecting compared to previous titles. Given the sheer size of the game world, expecting the player to collect every last banana/blueprint/medal/crown/key/coin was way too OCD for my tastes. Also, the soundtrack was lacking the trademark sounds and tones of previous DK games (tribal-esque music with drums, flutes, etc). It sounded more like the music to a Banjo-Kazooie game, which broke the immersion factor for me. I'm not saying Banjo-Kazooie has bad music (far from it!), it's just that it has its own distinct aesthetics that tend to be very different from a Donkey Kong game.

EDIT: gah, the forum made the line spacing too close for some reason. I had to put an extra space in there just to make it more readable.

Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, A shooter for the PS1 featuring Jax as the main protagonist...."Special" is a very suitable word for this game.

And I'm actually one of 4 people that enjoyed Sonic R!

Phantasy Star III. Who can forget the futuristic space medieval game that has nothing to do with the series?
Never got past the opening castle... i just couldn't... And then bunnies murdered me outside. I... wat.

Anyways. Resident Evil 4 is clearly the black sheep. I mean it was actually good! [because leon didn't care about las plagas. And i think ultimately that is what made it good... story-wise]

of the american fire emblem games that i played, shadow dragon was the black sheep. Had to kill everyone that you didn't use. what the dick is that.

Well, there is Silent Hill 4, which didn't spend enough time in Silent Hill and had some serious gameplay issues. Its not going to be in the HD Collection.

And then there's Dragon Age 2. Poor Dragon Age 2...
I heard somewhere that the game wasn't even suppose to be a Silent Hill game until about half way through it's development.

I'll try to dig up where I saw that...

OT: Black Sheep? Modern Warfare 3 (multiplayer) just doesn't flow like the other's did. I for one can tell that it was made by a group of people who kind of had no idea what they were doing.

Umm... Splinter Cell Conviction. While definitely worth the 10 dollars or so it is now, and the direction it took was at least on the right track, it was hardly a Splinter Cell game. I played it on the Hardest difficulty the very first time, and pretty much had no trouble with it.

The way the game is designed basically makes it impossible for you to actually have a tricky time unless you challenge yourself to not use any of the extra bullshit they added to the game. It caters way too much to the casual player in the case of where someone who barely plays games would probably have an easy time with it.

Yeah, I was looking at the wiki and it's unclear whether or not it was always suppose to be a Silent Hill game. It said something about the original title being Room 302 and talked about a whole new style of gameplay, but likewise, still not sure if that was just a working title for the game.
