Resident Evil 2.

Dark games aren't my thing really. Never really taken to horror films, or survival horror games.

Trying to remember. I think Diablo 1 was dark than II. The soundtrack the ambience, and nothing at the time really came close to that kinda moodiness.

I would agree in theme it's really difficult to go past Planescape Torment. A zombie used as a signpost, and Ravel ... fuck man.

There was one game that scared the fucking hell out of me, trying to remember it's damn name...

Fatal Frame - atmosphere
Bioshock - atmosphere mostly
Dead Space - Excellent sound design.
Portal - Sense of dread. The first time you find one of the rooms with the blood and writing on the walls you're like, "whoa, wtf, totally unexpected".
Silent Hill - obvious.
Half Life 2 - Impending dread, and the segments that are mostly monster related, like Ravenholm, the noise the fast ones make, ughh.

Splinter Cell.

A torch or even some night vision goggles would of been nice. Instead I had to ramp the brightness and gamma way up in most sections.
Um, am I missing something here? Because NVG and thermal googles are like Fishers main tools as I remember it. At least in the 4 SC games I have. (And I even bought Double Agent for PS2, PS3 and PC to find a version that didn't suck. No dice.)

On topic, I find The Darkness to be a very dark game, both litterally but also thematically. No need to go into further detail as posters upstream have already done so.

Good. I'm glad. I did mention I might have been missing something. In any case, silly me! My point about DA still stands though. :p
