Elder Scrolls games are the kind of RPGs where you can customize your armor and weapons and kill (mostly) whoever you want and blablabla. Basically, a lot of RPG geeks love it. And in a sense, it's like Gears of War or Mass Effect 3 coming out. A lot of people REALLY want it, and for some it's because they believe it will be that last installment for that series.

Dude, one thing. DRAGONS.

[small]...and rpg elements and dungeons and stuff...[/small]

But mostly DRAGONS. Have you seen any gameplay? Look at it's glory.

If you want to know why Tes V is going to be drastically superior to everything, look at QuakeCon. During the demo, a pregnant woman went into labour when the dragons came out. She IGNORED the labour strains because she wanted to see the god damn demo! This game is going to be historically iconic for at least the next ten years.

OP: Arena and Daggerfall are free, Morrowind and Oblivion are both peanuts if you shop around.

Try the series, in earnest, then start this thread again, with some background this time.

For new gamers, the later games are accessible, fancy looking and visceral, that's all the casual observer needs. Dig deeper and (especially with the earlier games) there's a well crafted world, canon and subtleties to be had that enrich the experience. Not wanting to jump the gun here, but I'm pretty sure that for many gamers, Skyrim won't disappoint.

it looking very bad to me right now mainly because why people are so praising of it 3 months before it comes out..
what this sound like to me:

"I liked liking things before they came out, but now liking things before they come out is too mainstream..."

My hipster alert is tingling...

OK i'm doing this what is with almost everyone liking Skyrim but i just don't get it. Not saying that it will be a bad game but really can some one give me a reason why it will be so good?

And no the reason "Because it's Skyrim" or "Because it's an Elder Scrolls game" will not count i want a real reason to buy this game because it looking very bad to me right now mainly because why people are so praising of it 3 months before it comes out.
It's Bethesda, they made the other Elder Scrolls games. Those were AWESOME. So we want more, and since they seem to have dumped most of the stuff that held back their previous ones from being completely and totally amazing. So we have gorgeous game with generally great stories and mechanics that has dumped the old engine in favor of one that looks much better, and a lot of fans are hyped... that's why people are praising it.

You dislike how people are praising it before it comes out, yet you're doing an equal amount of judging pre-release? oh the hypocrisy

3 Words......Dual Wield Shields
Sorry bro, but you can't dual wield shields in the game. It was a joke PC Gamer(?) made. It's been refuted by PC Gamer and Pete Hines, the vice-president of Bethesda.

God damn it. I hadn't heard that was a joke until just now. I now know what mod I must find a way to make. I am slightly less happy about Skyrim now. :(. However, the races look great (for the most part) and I am still hopeful that it will be fun. I guess I have to skip my duel shield orc character and go to the SERIOUS one.

Okay, let's work through this list.

You've got your RPG standard, dragons appearing as constantly respawning boss fights that will decide to attack you whenever they damn please. Okay, that sounds pretty good to me.
Now, you've got some amazing graphics (if you're into that sort of thing; personally I'm just glad the characters don't traumitise me anymore).

Now, it's also promising a more in-depth version of everything lots of people liked in the previous games, better melee combat, better ranged, better sneaking and better magic:

With melee, you've got dual-wielding and more moves to pull off, more weapons and an empthasis on timed-blocking as opposed to sitting there holding your block button.
With ranged, arrows are supposed to hit harder, be more effective but also be rarer and you have to stand firmly still to get a good shot off, can't just back peddle your way out of everything.
With sneaking, you can slice throats now and get stealth-insta kills (with melee weapons) and generally be more sneaky.
With magic, you can use each spell in a number of ways. Example given by Bethesda was fireball can be laid down as a fire trap, used as a flamerthrower, dual-wielded for a mega fireball spell and finally, used regularly.

Add to this a seemingly more cohersive story which is commented upon by the people in the world, a world that doesn't just level up with you leaving you with no challenge (Oblivion) and a large open world where you can just mess about as you like... I think that's why people are excited.
Also, the characters don't look like playdough aliens, you're not locked into a speech minigame to try to get people to talk to you and well, maybe some people want to pretend they're vikings.

Hope I helped.
