Did the original Super Mario 1985 on a Gameboy without dying (although warp zones were used)

Going through the entire Medal of Honor Frontline game on the xbox only getting headshots and going for as close to 100% accuracy as possible.

Roleplaying Skyrim so I do whatever my character would want to do.

Playing Fallout3 where I immediately punch every single person I meet in the face.

I got bored right around the time I met a strangely forgiving BoS Paladin who steadfastly refused to go hostile yet shrugged off my blows while standing in the doorway that I was trying to leave.

It is extremely important that you let all the animations go all the way through whenever possible. That is to say for example don't cancel the land animation with movement. You could use your dive attack shockwave to instantly destroy a group of guys or you can casually land in the middle of them all and watch them freak out cuz hey it's Batman!

It is also important that whenever there is one guy left you turn your back to him and walk (not run) away as if you didn't notice him. You then do a backwards counter for maximum coolness.

As a rule walk > run whenever possible.

Oh and chill in rafters for an extra minute when there's one guy left in a stealth room just to watch him scurry around in terror for a bit. Once you decide to actually progress land behind him (again don't cancel the animation) walk up to him, wait for him to randomly turn around then punch him in the face.

The gun jammer is your best friend at this point.
That sounds like the best play through of Batman ever.
I shall start this in the morrow but everthing I do will have Batman commontary,
from me, in a Batman voice, being melodramatic.
/Batman on "And I was going to let you leave." /Batman off

Edit: oops forgot to write abit before I posted..
I got to the final boss of Final Fantasy IX in one sitting, just about killed me.
The funny thing is I don't even try to handicap myself with this challenge. It's just my standard playstyle for this game... I have restarted from a checkpoint more than once because my awesome entrance was spoiled by some jerk seeing me and other such nonsense.

Play Dark Souls without smashing my controller.

I failed. :(
I feel I broke something during my first attempt at DS... Now what was it? The huge rage storm then 6/7 month break before I went back to it kinda obscures my memory a bit.

It might have been my 360 controller but maybe that was before then... That controller still works surprisingly, it hit the wall battery pack first and it split into each individual component of said battery pack.

It still works if you line up all the little bits and don't make any sudden movements.

Not really an in game challenge but

My older brother got FF7 for Christmas, and he was leaving for college with his PS in a week. I wasn't going to see that thing again until the summer, so decided that I needed to get Knights of the Round and finish the game before then. Mission accomplished.

Another one, not really a formal challenge but something I felt was impressive none the less, was scoring 100 points in a standard Madden game on All-Madden (multi-person franchise mode (full fantasy draft) a few years in, so our teams were pretty stacked by then).

I don't set challenges. I guess the closest thing to a challenge that I've done is a "speedrun" of Dead Space 2. Speedrun because I finished in a day...

This has come about because, for some reason, I have decided to try and collect every piece of armor in Monster Hunter Freedom: Unite. It's taking alot of time..... 120 hours so far and I've haven't even got all of the low rank armors yet. So I figured other people must have experiences like this.

So, What is the hardest/ stupidest/ craziest challenge that you have ever set yourself in a game?

(This doesn't include achievements, this is solely challenges that have no reason or gain to them)
The level in Super Meatboy "I want to be the guy." After dying over 100 times over the course of many weeks, I gave up forever.
I actually almost beat that. I was right at the end and i was about to win after hundreds of tries. Guests came and i paused to greet them, but one of their kids wandered in and shut down the game.

It took all my willpower to not scare off all my parents friends in a fit of blind seething rage.

With an avatar like that im not surprised you got a head shot that far away on BF3

OT: I think I might actually start getting around to completing dark souls, which for someone like me is a big enough challenge on its own, especially if you consider the fact that I enjoy games on easy first, then switch to normal difficulty.

Metal Gear Solid 2 no alert run where I couldn't kill or knock out any guards. I could only distract them by knocking on walls and dropping magazines. I got soooooo close to the end too but there's an impossible room right before you snipe vamp in the face. iirc, the setup is a semi-circular walkway with no cover or obstructions and two patrolling guards that walk towards each other, then away. I just stopped there but I really should just knock those guys out and see if I can beat the rest of the game with no alerts and no kos.

1 Credit Clears of shmups and arcade games. Many I fail some I beat. (I tend to put more effort into my shmups though so most of my clears are STGs)

My 2 biggest fails are

Mars Matrix (MAME) Put months into learning a good scoring route through the game, and could consistantly make it to the last stage, burnt out at the last hurdle.

Shinobi (MAME) God damn those last 2 stages

I also have an in-built challenge in Batman: Arkham City where everything I do must be extremely melodramatic at all times. It's pretty much a requirement if i'm playing Batman.
Interesting, tell me more..
Here's a few examples I can think of at the moment:

It is extremely important that you let all the animations go all the way through whenever possible. That is to say for example don't cancel the land animation with movement. You could use your dive attack shockwave to instantly destroy a group of guys or you can casually land in the middle of them all and watch them freak out cuz hey it's Batman!

As a rule walk > run whenever possible.

Once you decide to actually progress land behind him (again don't cancel the animation) walk up to him, wait for him to randomly turn around then punch him in the face.

The gun jammer is your best friend at this point.
LOL, awesome. I love freaking out the last guy in a room by landing right behind him and waiting for him to turn around. Makes me feel like a badass. What's also cool is that some of the challenge missions actually rewards you a medal if you do that.

Trying to finish the LEGO games with 100% completion. Ooh boy is that difficult.

As for self-imposed challenges...

Probably Fallou 3, I once did a playthrough where the only armour I allowed myself was the Vault 101 clothing and then the Regulator Duster, and I only used hand guns and the Hunting Rifle. It was my 'cowboy' playthrough, and it was very, very hard.

Not so much in the early levels, but definitely when you start fighting the Enclave.

Nothing too hardcore, but some of my favorites.

Playing Ratchet Deadlocked on the hardest difficulty from a fresh file.

No buying/item storage/side quests playthrough in Dragon's Dogma. And let me tell you, I STILL ended up with piles of inventory clutter(one of the primary reasons I wanted to try this play style)

I've had tons of self imposed limitations depending on which file of Skyrim I'm playing.

Use Quina in Final Fantasy 9. 9 forces you to use everybody at some point so I said to myself that I would always use Quina. As soon as I could swap him out I did. So failed. Big time.

Actualy whenever I play FF 9 I all ways end up using the same 4 (Zidan, Garnet,ViVI and Stiner)

Perfect Ghost run on Thief 2. I got stuck on Life of the Party. Goddamn that level is hard. I need to get the othe games and try ghosting them too at some point.

I've also tried several times to fully, 100% complete FFX, but I keep getting bored and giving up. I'd also considered doing a No Sphere Grid run, but it's such a hard challenge that I get scared just thinking about it.
