Atlantis. What with the cost of finding it, mounting an underwater assault and establishing a base there.

By all accounts Atlantis was quite the formidable opponent in its hayday too. :p

UK, the Spanish couldn't invade us by our weather alone, how hard would it to invade with added resistance!?
Plus i live there, and thus we are protected by my legions of death ants.
So, happy trails!

Unless you specifically leave out the USA as an answer, The answer is pretty much going to be USA for just about everything.
I've invaded the USA 5 times, it's just nobody takes notice.

People, especially civilians, tend to look after themselves. So long as it wasn't a door-to-door gankfest, people would most likely submit to their new overlords so long as burgers and cable were restored asap. Oh, and most untrained people don't shoot to kill even when they are soldiers. And more often than not even trained people freeze up when they see guns pointed at them. Hell, even the Russians who knew their guys would shoot them for running still ran from the germans, and got shot. None of them thought to shoot the guys who promised to shoot them. Armed conflict, despite what pop psychologists may want you to believe, is not easy to prepare for by playing computer games.

Oh, and as for your NRA sloganeering, I live in a country where they did take the guns, after we won gold in the largest mass murder ever event. Still no sign of UN takeovers, or spiraling gun crime as yet. I've personally seen 1 (one) handgun in the hands of a drug dealer, once. And he was arrested two days later, with his unloaded gun. Damn those scary outlaws.

If the RA applied it's arguements to drug policy, I might think them credible.
I'm pretty sure the Russian "charge forward, then run back and get shot by your commissar" is actually vastly exaggerated Cold War propaganda promoted by the US. They weren't retarded, or they wouldn't have made it to the Reichstag.

Anyways, you're right, most people would just grumble about their new (Russian? Chinese?) overlords, but there's always a dedicated resistance, which is made a lot easier when a lot of citizens have firearms training and access to guns. And there's enough nationalism in the US to create a pretty big armed resistance.

That said, armed gun nuts don't make a country much harder to invade, just harder to occupy.

San Marino, unless you are Italy, an ally, or have conquered Italy.

Otherwise, US, Russia or China anywhere that has a nuclear arsenal, preferrable a second strike capability, such as a SSBN fleet. Not going to happen.

Places like the UK would be shorter to invade, except that you can't, I guess.
We have nukes as well buddy.
Who is "we"?

Taiwan. Simply put the country basically has no military because they dont need it. half the world has its shady business transactions completed in/with the country. meaning none of the major players would appreciate it being it attacked very much because that's where all their money is moved. thus every every westernized country would have some contrived reason to defend it.

Russia, good luck finding food and keeping your fuel from freezing. Also good luck fighting the hardest, most badass people in the world in their own climate.

America. No other country is even in second place.

1. Nukes. Lots of 'em. Duh.
2. Most advanced army in the world, costing about as much as the rest of the world's militaries combined. Not the largest, but in an invasion it would immediately be made immensely larger by the draft-- remember, it's the third most populous country on Earth.
3. Total air and naval supremacy. America's navy is larger than the world's next thirteen largest navies combined. It has both the largest and second largest air forces in the world (the former belonging to the U.S. Air Force, the latter belonging to the U.S. Navy). China may have numbers, but what good are they if they can't even land?
4. Largest economy in the world. Has the industrial capacity to continue pumping out armaments over the course of a protracted war. Also, its industry is self-sufficient, since domestic steel, energy, and manufacturing industries means it doesn't have to rely on imports in case of an embargo.
5. Backed up by the broadest military alliance in history, NATO, including two other nuclear-capable members. Also allies with Japan, which doesn't have nukes but stands prepared to get them on a moment's notice.
6. Strong civilian resistance is guaranteed. Countries used to broad liberties and democratic governance are even less likely than other countries to accept an occupation, and countries with nationalistic populations doubly so. America has a combination of high liberty and high nationalism. The legitimacy of the government is universally recognized, and minority discontent is relatively low, meaning there's no natural group of collaborators for occupiers to look forward to. And, as many people have pointed out, civilian resistance would be unusually effective, since it's the most armed country in the world.
7. Geography. Seas to the east and west, a close ally to the north. It's big and has a more diffuse population than Europe, therefore harder to control. None of Russia's environmental defenses, but modern logistics are making that sort of thing less effective anyway.

It certainly doesn't win longest invasion, because the invasion would probably never even reach American shores.

I think all Western nations have actually fallen a helluva long way since the Greatest Generation. We talk like we are our grandparents. I've got news for you - we ain't. I'd say pretty much ever Western nation, as it stands now, is best thought of as being France in early 1939. Full of that over-confident 'it could never happen here' false-sense-of-security. I think some of the Western, particularly the Anglo-descended ones (USA, Canada, Australia, and NZ), are kidding themselves.

I'm Australian - look around at the people you see everyday - they aren't fighters. The whine and complain about *everything*. These are not the kind of people I would expect to pull out an assault rifle, yell "Wolverines!!" and start blasting away at an approaching Hind. Hell the vast majority of Aussies wouldn't know how to fire *any* gun let alone *hit* anything.

Aussies have this silly image of themselves as rugged, manly types. If an army invaded, the majority of us would accept the surrender just as the French did. We simply aren't prepared, mentally or para-militarily.
well, blasting at a hind with an assault rifle is as fine a'way to commit suicide as any I suppose. So while I relieve you of your weapon before you draw anti-tank missile fire on you and your comrades, some of the finest infantry any country has produced will force the invading hoards back into an ocean filled with box jellyfish and high-tech submarines.

Every NATO country out there basically. If any of those countries ever get invaded, the invading force is pretty much fucked cause every single nation in NATO is forced to declare war against the invaders and come to the aid of the country that is being invaded.

Longest - Russia or Veitnam. Russia becuase of the sheer size of the country, To control all of it at once would take a massive force and a lots of time, then factor in the harsh russian winter.
Looking at recent history Veitnam was able to suffer about 30 years of continuous war on home soil, with France, then the USA, then China, and still won. These wars are grouped as the Indochina Wars.

Bloodiest- China, America, Russia. MAD, the casualties would not only be soldiers.

Costliest- per enemy combatant killed, Veitnam. For overall cost the winner would likely be China or Russia.

a conquerer of Veitnam would have to contend with ambiguous enemies, Ambushes, and all manner of devious traps.

China and Russia have lots of troops, but they don't have the same ability to use strike and run tactics as Vietnam. So per fatality the cost would most likely be lower for an invader, but the death toll would be substantially higher.

That is what i think with the limited knowledge I have in this area

Is this even a question?

Costliest invasion: Russia
Bloodiest invasion: Russia
Longest Invasion: Russia
Most Difficult Invasion: Russia

See the line? That's Napoleon's army; brown as it enters Russia, black as it leaves.

That's right, Russia is that fucking hard to conquer.

The Vatican. Tough to fit troops inside, tough to get the government to sanction air-strikes on architecture hundreds of years old, not to mention the opposition of the entire catholic faith and people who believe that guys who just wear funny hats don't deserve to be manhandled.

Not to mention the Piece of Eden hidden below it.

Nah, man. We were invaded so many times, I lost count. Sure we did our fair share of conquests as well back in the medieval ages, but still, we are not hard to invade. Heck, I could invade Poland myself!
