Costliest: USA - Lots of rednecks and such that know how to blow stuff up and a wide array of environmental differences that would break certain equipment but not others, particularly when factoring in Hawaii and Alaska.

Bloodiest: Russia - If you don't believe me ask Hitler or Napoleon.

Longest: Russia - Too much territory and too much snow.

Hardest: USA - There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Honorable mention to China for the vast population.

The U.S.A. or Russia.

The former because of technology and money, the latter because of their geography.

åmerica or Russia. Russia has climate and a massive area on its side.

America has a bit of a military fetish and is well placed, as the only countries that would really stand a chance against them on a military offensive have to cross oceans to reach them.

Switzerland?

hasn't happened yet.

Runner up goes to USA. You don't really have to fear their organized military as much as you do the fucking gun toting crazies that are hoping/wishing that some country gets ballsy enough to invade. Armies enforce codes of ethics, gun toting crazies do not.

Switzerland. Rough terrain, assault rifles a common item on most houses.

I think that's a liability, not an advantage.

*kill every civilian in sight, tell the UN they had guns on them*
*carpet bomb a whole city, tell it was a resistance stronghold*

I don't know enough. But I'll buck the trend and say New Zealand. The only invasion in it's history didn't work.
This is always a major problem with islands, what about a blockade? Most islands like Japan/UK are not large enough to be self sustaining, they need a significant proportion of imports to keep functioning. A reasonably competent Navy could easily blockade which leads to a downward spiral as under the blockade they continually get weaker so are less able to break to blockade. For example fuel will quickly run out, then you can't fly anti-shipping patrols so even more mines get laid around ports.

Island also means there just aren't many places to retreat to and get regroup, also means the enemy could land at any of the 4 points on the compass and even in multiple locations. That just makes it too damn hard to defend.

A country like Russia surrounded by nations that don't get on with each other (so they won't co-operate or synchronise attacks) can reasonably only expect to be invaded from direction at a time.

I think all categories lead to Russia winning this in a clean sweep. Look at the size, the terrain, and the population of the fucking thing! It's huge, it's all snowy and it has enough people to just throw waves of fuckers at you until you just give up.

There's some battle during World War 2 between invading German forces and Russian troops where, in one battle, Russia threw about a million soldiers in there all at once, not counting the vast amount of tanks and other support. They won based on both sheer numbers, and because you do not fuck with a pissed off Russian!
yeah i agree, and thats stalingrad you are thinking of. not to mention the germans blocked their own tanks by bombing the shit out of the place first.

I think you are talking about the battle of Kursk.

This is also mainly cuz the Russians will make you fucking choke on the bones of their people. You can't conquer Russia without killing every fricking Russian alive xD

US has scary weapons, and that's just the conventional ones. China would be a ***** to invade, as well as Russia, but the US would be the hardest. A military invasion against the US just isn't something we see as feasible, and not because we think we're invincible - that stopped just about a decade ago. Our air force and navy alone would make it well nigh impossible, and if the White House declared martial law and allowed the full States-based army and marines onto US soil, it simply wouldn't happen. Not by conventional means.

Afghanistan is currently the most unconquerable place on earth throughout its history the most advanced and largest armies of the time have become bogged down there right now even the Americans and UN are pulling out without it being properly pacified and handing it over to a government that is going to fall over

Russia is conquerable just all the people in recent history who have tried have made amateurish mistakes like attacking while they are already at war on 2 other fronts or trying to continue their campaign in winter when the best bet is to just piss off and wait until summer again

I am pretty sure (based on current political climate)if you are invading the USA you don't have the approval of the UN in the first place. Also American's don't take to kindly to the bombing of their civilian populations. The only thing worst then a gun toting crazy is an extremely pissed gun toting crazy.

I have to lean towards America...a - because we probably invest the most in training/equipping our men, and b - because all of our allies have a similar commitment to their respective military forces.

Russia or America. America has a very strong military, and I;m sure when pressed many civilians would rise to the occasion. Russia because of size and climate.
