Revenge of Shinobi on the Megadrive. If you've ever played it, that double jump bit on that Dock level... Christ... I got past it once only to have my arse handed to me by Godzilla.

Original Xbox Ninja Gaiden was one of the most punishing gaming experiences of my life, or N which was ruthless but beautiful. A real two way tie...

Nothing special comes to mind, really.

CoD 4 on veteran, maybe? I feel like a sissy when I say that. Still haven't beaten it. I'm stuck on the last fucking level, in that stupid corridor before the incredibly slow moving doors.

Oh wait! The Flintstones for the NES. I never made it further than a couple of levels x)

Games today don't even compare to the difficulty level of older games for NES and it's precursors. There are some pretty horrible ones out there for NES especially. I mean, how many people do you know that have beaten Contra or Double Dragon without the Konami Code? And don't forget about RPG's either. The original Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior were ridiculous. Oh and Castlevania, screw that. I'd probably have to say Castlevania was one of the hardest games I've ever played. I only ever beat it with an eumlator, not to mention Double Dragon and Contra as well.

Xenosaga Episode1 hands down. I loved and hated that game.
Both of you are right. I should give you a cookie. Well...... The most fun I've had while playing a kind of hard game is in Far Cry 2. It has more glitches than it should, and the AI isn't that great, but the shooting is difficult, intense, and fun.

*Scene from Far Cry 2*: You sneak through the bushes with a silenced MP5N SMG in your hand. You see 3 guards standing at their posts, and one unoccupied 50 calibre MG mounted on a jeep. When the guards look away, you make a mad dash for the jeep. You almost leap into the driver's seat..... And you drive away with bullets whizzing by your head. You escape your enemies... And leave all of them alive. You just beat some overpowered enemies without firing a single shot. Some call it wussing out. I call it being deeper than most FPS-ing minds. Welcome to Far Cry 2. Welcome to Africa. Welcome to FPS freedom.

Nigh impossible Ghosts n' Goblins. It's pretty bad when you can turn on an infinite lives cheat and still suffer through screaming, controller-biting agony.
