Controllers, I say ban them and watch videogames! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go 'play' MGS4. :D

Rewarding success.
The question is "What is the most overused..." Not "What is the most widely used..."
But the man has a point, you get points for pretty much every thing these days (see MW 2's multiplayer aspect for a shocking example).

EDIT: And realism, I miss the days of a 'Space station silicone valley' or 'Mystical ninja starring: Goemon' or a good Banjo & Kazooie. They can still be found to some extent on the wii (lol) but it seems that the other two consoles gave that area up. (I'm sure one of you will be able to prove me wrong like the unknowing opinionated fool I am but whatever.)

Wouldn't that be the same thing?

[sub]I was just messing with the OP[/sub]
Overused suggests that it's used too much. Widely used just means it's used a lot.
So walking is not used a lot in videogames?
It's not overused, i.e. used too much, you dirty, dirty troll. =)

I know MW2's like
You killed someone! +100
With a gun! +100
And you helped some jack@$$ stay alive only to get killed after walking around the corner! +100
And youre sitting on your couch! +100
Playing MW2! + 100
You killed yourself! +9000

In an unreal engine game... cover systems.

Other games, using bright or sparkly objects to signify important things.

Besides, since when do people walk in games?
Seriously, if you ever get stuck in a game universe, you'll know who the main character is by that he or she runs all the time with some mysterious infinite energy that stops them even from sweating.

Actually....walking is used too much! I want more levitation!

Okay, being facetious aside, a few thoughts.

Morality : It either forces you to the play the game twice in a completely arbitrary manner, or it's so ineffectual, the game shouldn't even bother tracking it. In the former, your only options are a mix of a psychopath and an asshole, or a goody goody, and either way, it's typically only the final cutscene that really changes.

Multiplayer : Or at least, multiplayer only. If I can't have fun with a game unless I get at least 1 friend to buy it, something is wrong.

Fixed save points : ...Why is this still a feature? Some of us can't really keep gaming until we find another blue ball to save at. At least throw in a Fire Emblem-style suspend game feature.

Unlockables in multiplayer : Why should anyone accomplish an arbitrary goal to use something in multiplayer? Why did I have to unlock half of SSBB's cast in the mediocre adventure mode, when I have the game to play with visiting family, or hurt bots? Why do I need to unlock a third of the cast of SF4 to have a full roster when I'm about to play over X-Box Live? Why do I have to start out with crappy variations on every gun in CoD4, and some decidely mediocre perks, when the only difference between me and the guy with every single gun, part, and perk is ownership time? I really don't like the idea of having to slog through x odd hours of gameplay to get a variation on my favorite video game gun (the shotty) that qualifies as decent. Okay, before I carry on, multiplayer unlockables are irritating, as far as I'm concerned. How about just give everyone everything and see what the players come up with?

- Bullet time...well not anymore anyways but it used to be.
- Only being able to rent weapons
[rant]I get it you want us to waste money on purchasing op weapons in the online store for the game cause that's how you make your money but for the love of good gaming at least be kind enough to give us enough in game money to not have to make a new account every time the rental time runs out cause you don't let us earn enough in game money to afford to rent anymore after the first one[/rant]

Or needed, as such.

How about 'making big enemies run into walls' or 'crossbows go through multiple people, but bullets don't'' ?
