Because when you talk to them, they have the opportunity to refuse or argue, whereas with a text message, you can just say "You are going to my house at 7:00 PM to wash and polish my balls, and that's final."

Rude (as in adult) texts to and from your girlfriend can be very rewarding - and not nearly as embarassing as saying that stuff out loud..

But otherwise I agree, mobile annoy me - and people who are constantly using one annoy me more.

I'm able to send people information without disturbing them enough to cause them to stop what they're doing. I.e. they're able to read it at their own leisure, which can't be done with a phone call.

I text because I hate the phone. I don't like to call people ever. I'll pretty much use anything else I can to get a hold of them just to avoid calling. "I hope they check their PM box today." lol

Actually calling is a last resort for me these days, but texting is what gave me the final excuse to never dial a number ever again.

So you can communicate with someone literally all day. Talking to someone over the phone is very personal and sometimes intrusive. With texting you can communicate casually. To call someone you usually have to have a point, the conversation ends, or they end because someone has to do something.

Anyone who has had an extended conversation with a girl over text message would know what I'm talking about. My friend for example, text his girlfriend literally every 3 minutes of the day, unless something like school gets in the way. If taking a shower he would simply stick his hand out the shower to text, he has someone text for him if driving, while playing COD he simply drops the controller and picks up the phone to respond.

If it weren't for girls, there would be no need for unlimited texting.

Personally, I put alot of thought when I text girls so my response time isn't even close to his, but I'm working on it. And that's another thing, you could be terrible at communicating your feelings in an instance but a fucking wizard at texting.

I don't know about your country, but in mine there are lots of services that offer free text messages, or 1000 per month for 1?, or similar, so it's a lot cheaper than calling. And really, when you are in public places, people shouting at their phones piss me off. I only really call my parents, or when I need to have a long conversation, otherwise text message all the way.

Texting is way easier than calling someone. I hate calling people, because they either never pick up the phone or I have to leave a voicemail. -.- I might as well just leave them a text message to look at for later. It's alot simpler and alot more convenient.

The only time I use texts is when someone sends me one (which is never). And for better or worse, it introduced txt speak. I can't understand most of it apart from the obvious ones like l8r. With some of the messages I have gotten, I have to get someone else to read it for me if its just txt speak.

As it has been said many times over, texting is a good way to send someone a message in a crowded area where a phone call would not be optimal. Also, you can message someone to serve in the sted of a voice mail. It's just another way to communicate, such as MSN when you could just e-mail or phone the person.

I never got what the big deal about text messaging was. Its faster to call someone then send messages back and forth.
Can someone please elaborate.

Oh yea, and dont give me that "so you can talk to your friends during class" bullshit, you should be paying attention
Its a way of talking to someone, without really having to talk to them...

It costs hardly anything, it can be far less awkward than phoning (say if the conversation dies off a bit), you can talk to like 5 people at once.

Yeah it means you can talk to people while doing something else. *shrug* I almost never call people, I prefer to text. It's just really handy.

Well, I'm giving you that "so I can talk to my friends during class" bullshit, since some of my classes are so easy I can take notes and text at the same time, then still make A's on the tests.

Some of us suffer with the kind of anxiety that makes you feel incredibly awkward while on the phone.

Either that or it's just me, my girlfriend and one of my best mates...

Allowing people to tell the same thing to a bunch of people at the same time, as well as letting people who hate talking on the phone to communicate with other people on the phone, without the actual talking part.

It's quick, cheap, and the messages are saved in case you need to remember that address or other important information.

I see it as something we do to get a quick message across. It also allows you to be more discrete with your conversations.

I put it in the same type of category that Instant Messaging is in.
