I've known too many Black people who are say... from Jamaica or Australia who dislike the term African American because it's not accurate.
Exactly this. Our currently accepted term, according to the Commission For Racial Equality, is 'black British'. It used to be a blanket term for all non-white British citizens but it's become synonymous with 'African and Caribbean' since we introduced other terms like 'British Asian' (that is, the Indian subcontinent, not what you Americans refer to as Asian, i.e. Chinese, Japanese and Korean).

Fuck political correctness, unless the person you're talking about is ashamed of what they are then it isn't a problem. Had some campaigning group trying to ban calling old people "old". They wanted to ban words like old and elderly, and call them "youthfully challenged". Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that imply that being old is bad?

If I'm in a position where I'd call other people caucasian instead of white, or oriental instead of asian, then I just call them negros. All other times, I just call them black.

Just call them black - its not offensive, and has no connotation other than their actual colour, which is a fact

Honestly, "African-American" and "Black" are interchangeable here, when used as an adjective.
For some reason, when each is used as a noun, "Black" is kinda offensive, and I don't really know why.

Black is a broader term, and a lot of my friends here in Houston aren't African-American - they're African-African, and they prefer to be called black, so I'd say both terms are PC

OT: I guess it'd just be "Black" in English, and I don't know what it is for other languages.
African-American is a racist word playing with stereotypes and discriminating against white Africans. Oh wait white people getting discriminated? Like anybody would give a damn.
Well, by that logic, it also discriminates against Arab Africans and Berbers, and by ignoring them you are alienating a far higher percentage of the population of the African continent than by ignoring Caucasian Africans. No need to get uptight about it.

In Britain we just call them black people. If we ever need to.

My mother's black, I remember once someone apologised for saying that he wondered which one of my parents was. As if that would insult me
Yeah I guess this is right. If I have to describe a black person, I will say black instead of "African American" or "African European" cause it is an accepted term in this country. Plus I personally do not think it implies any offense, but if I'm wrong then please tell me.

But that is just backing up what he said, that not all Africans are black.

Just call them 'black' its not an insult, its a description, like calling someone tall, or ginger-haired. Its a distinguishing feature.

*sigh* The point is, he's cherry-picking my post and using that to make a point about nobody caring about discrimination against white people, which just annoys the hell out of me because it's what I most commonly hear from self-proclaimed racists as justification for their own racism.
If you actually read the rest of my post, I say that "black" is a better word for it.

EDIT: and no, I'm not saying he's racist, and neither am I, and neither, I hope, are you.

As far as I can tell the United States is the only place that anybody will get bent out of shape over use of the word "black."

Took the words right out of my mouth.

If anyone would get offended by the word "black," then they are too sensitive for any meaningful social interaction in the real world. That's their problem, not mine. I make no apologies.
