patches are almost always gonna screw with something, but there is an increase of patches breaking more than they fix, which is unacceptable outside of a rare freak-occurrence. but i dont really have a problem with patches breaking things...its when devs never bother to fix them that irks me. i remember with DAO there was a relatively common bug of severe attack delay (you would hit something and 5 seconds later damage would register...so you could kill something in one hit but it would still attack you for a awhile). instead of fixing it, every subsequent patch made it WORSE, and because the expansion only works with the 1.3 patch, the only way for me to play it is to play it with upwards of 15 second attack delay.
it really seems simple to me; if a patch breaks more than it fixes, DONT RELEASE IT! doctors dont release a flu vaccine that gives 1 in 10 people cancer, so developers have no excuse for releasing broken patches. some things will slip by what passes for playtesting nowadays, but i have a really hard time believing some patch-induced bugs went unnoticed by devs without them actively ignoring them, especially when 3 patches later theyre still ignoring them.
the solution is right in front of our faces actually; finish developing the bloody game so that it plays smoothly, and you wont have to risk fucking everything up with desperately needed patches.
