I'm a psychology major and I chose it because I've always had an interest and I went to a counselor recently to help clear some stuff up and that kind of pushed me towards it.

Also, for those in high school what do you want to major in and why? and for those that have graduated how has your major affected your career/lifestyle if at all?

Biochemistry. It was the most difficult major I could imagine. Turned out I hated it by the end and want nothing to do with the field. Woops.

History. Ever since I was ten or so I've been curious about past events and how they have shaped our present. It's much easier to understand why certain areas of the world behave the way they do when you know a thing or two about their background.

As it stands right now though, I'm probably not going to establish a career in my major for at least a few years, if at all. Opportunities are scarce right now, and with current economic conditions it's probably not going to change for a while. That's okay though. I value the knowledge and insight I learned regardless if it will help me professionally or not.

Theatre/English double major. I love to act and I love to write. I'd rather be poor doing what I love than rich doing something I hate.
That's kind of how I feel about what I'm choosing to do. I'm going to be a music teacher and I've come to terms that (at least in the US) fine arts jobs are being cut and teachers don't make a lot of money anyway, but I love music and what you can do with it. So I'm going to be happy, but slightly less well off than a lot of people I know.

First time going to college it was Computer Technologies with a minor in Programming. Wanted to be a programmer, till I got extremely burnt out on the idea.

Going back to college, my major was/is Math with a minor in English and/or Psychology. Keeping it more basic cause I had/ have no idea what I wanted/ want to get my Bachelor's in but wanted to get the basics out of the way till I made up my mind. Maybe Journalism?

You have to find the right school.

If you get at least a master's degree and can get tenure in a small public school you could be making plenty of money.

I have considered being an English teacher, but I doubt I could really put in all the work that is needed.

I am going to give the whole showbiz thing a whirl and if (when) that doesn't work out I may try to be an Acting Professor at a college. It seems like a fun job haha

I'm in the end of my 3rd year in college and my major is in procrastination... seriously it's math but I feel like taking a break because it's starting to stress me out. I need a reboot, if you know what I mean. <_<

I have an English degree. I went back to school because that just barely qualified me to work at McDonald's alongside illiterate and mostly illegal high schoolers. Seriously, English is for either double majors, folks who still buy into the "study what you love, not what's marketable, and you'll make it either way" lie, or people who just outright hate food. Now I'm working in Manufacturing Tech with a focus on control systems.

I'm computer science major with a minor in cognitive science focusing on neuroscience/compSci side. I want to contribute in some way towards the direct neural interfacing research being done. I'd be a cog sci major but my school doesn't have one.

You should think about Cognitive Science, it is a pretty large field; being the study of thought (for the most part), it the nexus of where computer science, psychology, linguistics, anthropology, and biology meet. It is so big you can pretty much pick and choose your focus. Its research goes into anything from designing products to better fit the process of human thought, trying to figure out the psychological roots and subtext of communication, the ethics of interpersonal interaction, to the development of true AI.

I'm a Fiction Major - one of about 500 - at Columbia College Chicago. I'm there because one, my family's run out of money, two I've got friends there, and three...well, okay, I just really like writing. I write sci-fi. I'm currently in a Fantasy class and am hoping to get into the sci-fi class. Fiction is fun, and I'm hoping it'll get me into different things.

Studying for a B.A. in Russian Studies. Language, History, Culture, and so on.

I was tempted to do French, but as much as I love speaking and learning French, I hate being taught it. Russian was entirely different, a fresh start, and I had already studied the history for a couple of years without losing interest.

I was becoming slightly tired of it a couple of years ago, but I got all my enthusiasm back when I lived in St. Petersburg for a year, and now I'm rather hoping I can either head back there to teach, or continue with the subject on an M.A.

Love it. Also, practically no-one speaks Russian in the West, so it's good as a language for communicating with friends without people understanding what I'm saying, especially if they also speak another of my languages, like French. Frussian is a pretty confusing language for people who've not heard it. :p

I'm doing illustration. I'm better at English and maths than art (at school my English Literature teacher actually flipped at me when he found out I wasn't doing it at uni, he said I'd have been guaranteed the highest grades) butttt I like to draw pretty pictures. So there.
