Nostalgia colors even the worst thing nice. Even I admit that some of the cartoons I'd watched as a kid were pretty bad. Sure, even now there are a lot of stupid and idiotic cartoons, but there are many genuinely good ones. Look up Wakfu, for instance. It's french, but it's probably the best fantasy cartoon I've seen in the past 10 years.

The only modern cartoon i'd watch is in my avatar.

The old cartoons i'd watch would probably take me at least 10 minutes to name.
For some, only nostalgia applies. To most, superior quality counts.

Some Cartoons this generation are shit. Just like back when I was younger, some of the cartoons that were out were bad. If you want to see some good cartoons nowadays. I would suggest Chowder, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, and Adventure Time.

Take off your nostalgia goggles.

Stop whining about cartoons nowadays, this generation is different from ours, deal with it.

I get what people are saying abut "selective memory" but the simple fact is I can STILL watch a lot of the cartoons from my childhood now, and they are still awesome. A lot of the modern ones seem ripoffs of ones I used to watch.

Everyone thinks their nostalgia stained cartoons were better. Everyone's right. Everyone's wrong.

P.S. Adventure Time, Chowder, Regular Show, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic invalidate nostalgic bias.
i like every cartoon you just listed.
ot: i also feel the quality of cartoons has declined there are some new ones worth mentioning though such as penguins of Madagascar.

There's nothing wrong with them, it's just that you're more cognitively aware of the bad shows because it's not your generation. What you remember from your generation are all of the good shows. Now that you are cognitively aware of shows and the scale of goodness they have, you can see now that, in this current generation, there are plenty of awful shows that sink shortly after launch.

When my generation is old enough to feel nostalgic, they'll only remember the shows my generation liked, while the mediocre and bad shows are left to rot at the bottom of the crops ungleamed. And when we sit down to watch the coming generations cartoons, we'll largely be ignorant of the good shows and instead pick out the mediocre and bad shows to get angry at and we'll complain about how bad a lot of the cartoons are and ignore the good shows that kids these days watch. And thus, the cycle repeats itself.

Well, at least they're better than the cartoons BEFORE the nostalgia crowd, eg the Flintstones and the Jetsons, with no positive points, bad writing, choppy animation and (God help us all) a LAUGH track. On a CARTOON. I mean, on most sitcoms we could at least pretend they were being filmed live, but a cartoon? Those animators would have to be working pretty damn hard for it to be live.

Simple. You are older than the current generation. I am a 80s kid so to me those (apart from Loony Tunes) were all shit too.
I like this answer... and as I was a child of the 70s, I think there hasn't been a decent cartoon series since Scooby Doo or Johnny Quest. There have always been a few exceptions, of course.

There's nothing wrong with today's cartoons. The animation is better, the voice acting is better, the ADD like pacing for the most part is gone, they don't talk down to kids, and they don't preach(Captain Planet) like they use too. My only complaint is that sometimes they can be a little too meta.

I really believe that anime changed the game when they ruled the 90's and early 00's. Western animators learned a lot from that and stepped up their game.

If you're in your 20's complaining like this what are you going to do in your 40's and 50's? Are you still going to talk about the good old days of Toonami?

I don't think it's nostalgia to think that cartoons were better 5-10 years ago.

There were just some really good shows, that I liked as a kid.

Gargoyles
X-men: The Animated Series
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Batman: The Animated Series
Justice League
Alladin (seriously it was a good series, even got to end with a movie)
Thundercats
Samurai Jack

The few cartoons I watched this generation were The Spectacular Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men, and TMNT (not the series where they go to the future, that was horrible.)

BTW, I chose to only include cartoons that were made for kids.

As for adult cartoon; Futurama, Simpsons, American Dad, Archer.

Like others have stated its all nostalgia. Cartoons as of late are making a comeback with good quality and overall fun shows.

My only issues with cartoons are the directions their channels lead.
Cartoon Network: Everything is now surreal and random.
Nickelodeon: Everything is now CG.
Disney: Uhhhh.... Everything has brighter colors?(not many cartoons)
