There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no fear; there is power.
I am the heart of the Force.
I am the revealing fire of light.
I am the mystery of darkness In balance with chaos and harmony,
Immortal in the Force.
- The Je'daii Code -

I'm a huge Star Wars fan and this code represents the perfect balance between the lightside and the darkside of the force.

"Fortune favours the Bold"

I've just found this old Latin saying really fits my life. I've always taken risks/persevered, and most times it all works out.

Why is it that the stuff outside of the main canon is so much more interesting than the movies?

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

-The Code of the Sith

There's certainly a lot to think about in the Extended Universe, although the only part of the extended universe I've got any familiarity with is Death Troopers.

"There is one tactical principle that is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wounds, death and destruction upon the enemy in the minimum amount of time."

I read a lot of Star Wars comics and I think they mention the je'daii code in the first issue of the Dawn of the Jedi series.

I'm grateful that George Lucas created the Star Wars universe, but I think that most EU stories are far superior to the movies. What's your favourite piece of star wars media?

How'd the Grey Warden creed go again...

"No man can be a failure if he strives everyday to leave the world a better place than he found it."

Can't remember where I heard that, but it pretty much sums up my philosophy. Decency isn't something that comes easy; people are, by nature, selfish. However, if you work everyday to be a decent person, not just appear a better person, but actually be one, your life will not have been wasted.

Well, beyond Death Troopers and some of the games, I don't really know that much about the EU, if you could provide some good places to start getting into it I'd be most grateful!

"Do everything humanly possible to not hit, but when you hit, hit hard"

I think it's Roosevelt, but I don't know.
It also explains the weird English (the meaning is nearly the same as splinter though)

The villainy you teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

It's a shame that only the part about being pricked is so oft quoted, because the whole spiel is pretty goddamn good:

Shylock said:
Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions; fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, heal'd by the same means,
warm'd and cool'd by the same winter and summer
as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us,
do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?
If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that.
If a Jew wrong a Christian, what is his humility?
Revenge. If a Christian wrong a Jew, what should his
sufferance be by Christian example? Why, revenge.
The villainy you teach me, I will execute,
and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

"Take off. Nuke the site from orbit. Only way to be sure." - Hicks

"I do know that for the sympathy of one living being, I would make peace with all. I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other." - The Monster

Also a fan of the Bene Gesserit litany, John Custer's lesson to young Jesse, and several others already mentioned.

"Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder?s eye on the last Day."

-The Aiel Creed, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time

I'm also quite partial to the Bene Gesserit one.

"The enemy gate is down!"

Good ol'e Ender's Game. Orson Scott Card maybe a homophobic weirdo, but that first novel was pretty good.

"What? Over? Did you say "over?" Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! And it ain't over now. Cause when the goin' gets tough... The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer..."

As a kid, I used to try to embody the concept of the 'bad-ass bookworm' with this one...

"Civilize the mind. Make savage the body."

And since every bespectacled bruiser has to have a witty rejoinder for when they outsmart/pummel someone, I had...

"...proving once again that if we've learned anything from history, it's only that we haven't learned anything from history."

The first was Chairman Mao (how I loved getting under my teacher's skin with that one) and I dunno who to credit the second one to.

Damn, someone already took the Gunslinger's Creed and Ender's battle cry.

Ah well. Mine would probably be one of these two from General Mattis:
"I come in peace. I didn?t bring artillery. But I?m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I?ll kill you all."
"Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."
Marines don't screw around, man.

Batman has another good one:
"The world only makes sense when you FORCE it to."

EDIT: I actually made one for myself when I played through Walking Dead:
"What I love, I will protect with all I am. I need, I will accomplish through whatever means I have. But what I am, I will hold to until my last breath, for I would rather die a decent man than live a monster."

'The Dude abides'- The Dude.

Y'know, shit happens, but it'll all be alright in the long run, just chill the fuck out. I tend to take The Dude's whole persona as the way to deal with people in general, people make far too much of a fuss over everything. I'd have picked an inspirational quote like everyone else, but I kinda find them a bit cheesy, not that I necessarily disagree. It's like, just my opinion, man, but I think people who are just a bit laid back and don't really give that much of a fuck are a lot more badass than people who go around spouting stupid quotes about things.

On a side note, 'Badass' Creed' sounds like a totally awesome game.
I love that film. Just The Dude's whole outlook on life would be a great thing for people to learn from. I try to take a laid back approach to life and most of the time I genuinely believe that everyone has some good in them that you need to give them an opportunity to show it. Some days, however, destroy my faith in humanity. Like having my laptop stolen. That messed up my head for a few days, but to be honest everything else in my life is just peachy right now, so I can't really complain!
