So, I've been thinking. We all have those few games, that in our Childhood we adored, but has their ever been something that no matter what you could never do within those games? This isn't a hypothetical (IE: Nuke Glimmer in Spyro 2) but a literal one. And if you do have one, have you completed it?

For me, it would be (one of many) to 100% Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. Today, I accomplished this dream, grabbing the final Gem required to get the 'bonus' ending.

If possible if would like to go back someday and beat Perfect Dark on Perfect Agent difficulty, unlocking the final hidden mission as well. IIRC I managed to get to somewhere in the Area 51 missions before hitting a roadblock.

I remember the strategy guide stating that Perfect Agent difficulty was deliberately crafted so that only about 10% of gamers should be able to finish it. Wonder if that number has changed over the years, if it was accurate to begin with.

Words cannot even begin to express my desire to unfreeze Zora's Domain.

Good god, the hours my nephew and I put into trying to save that place...

The get all the dragon statutes in the first Spyro the Dragon. There was one statue left. I could see if I turned the camera just right. And my friend told me his friend said that you had to use the super dash thing to run all the way through this castle and up a ramp and smash a wall that was NOT labeled breakable and you would smash through it and the statue would be there. Couldn't do it. I never got to see the secret stage

Now the Internet exists and there's probably a video of how to get to the statue. I was so close I almost want to finish it

Edit: I actually did accomplish one of these. I love sonic 3 when I was a kid but I wasn't able to get all the emeralds. Fast forward a few years to when the Sonic mega collection came out on Gamecube and I could carry over save files from sonic 3 to sonic and knuckles. I got all the Chaos emeralds that let me turn into super sonic when I got 50 rings, THEN I got all the Hyper emeralds which let's you turn into hyper sonic which is super sonic but now he's silver and rainbowy and has stars spinning around him. when you press jump twice, he spin dashes across the screen and kills all the enemies. It was really special

I just wanted to finish Banjo Kazooie. After so many obscure puzzle solutions and endless hours of item collecting my friend accidentally deleted my pre-final boss save and I could never bring myself to redo everything.

When my nephew comes of age he shall succeed where I failed.

Putting them just out of reach of jumping height, only to find out an hour later they're only accessible when going through a completely different area... My childhood self seethed at that.

I had a bootleged version of Front Mission 3 and there was some sort of glitch that restarted the game whenever I tried to launch DHZ campaign, so there was a bug that basically cut my access to half of the game! Eventually, I've found proper version of game, of course, but for some time that other half of the game haunted me!

I've never completed Hogs of War single player campaign.

I've played all Syphon Filter games on PSX and I still have no idea what plot of those games was about.

OH! And I still don't know how to make BRUTALITIES in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3!

Impossible without cheats, even from the beginning, unless you lived in a well populated japanese city.

Ooh I dunno about 10%- It made you think a bit, for sure, but compared to Goldeneye, PD wasn't particularly hard. There is a certain knack to beating the end which cannot be done through brute force alone- perhaps they thought 90% of players would only ever try blasting the end boss till it fell down, which doesn't work.

Even if you do beat the game though, it's peanuts next to getting #1 rating on your multiplayer profile. I've been playing it on and off for over 10 years and I think I'm only down to about #13 after all this time!

Yep, this.... I mean back in the days of Red/Blue/Yellow that was the only thing us kids with Gameboy Colors cared about. Never did do it though.

Mario and Sonic

That is all.
To this day, I have never completed Super Mario World on the SNES. I've beaten Bowser and just about every level on the over-world but I've never made it to the hidden Radical world or made the seasons change.

---

As somebody else said, Catch-em-all. I would rather do this with the original Red, Blue, Gold and, Silver simply for the sake of keeping things from getting too insane...251 is far easier and more conceivable than...uh...649 (not counting variations like Wormple or whatever). Besides, Sapphire and Ruby were incompatible with the original 6 titles.

---

There are a number of Final Fantasy titles I haven't beaten such as 1, 3, 5 and, 6. As for other Final Fantasy titles, I don't see myself ever getting Excalibur-II in 9 but hopefully I can attain the first eventually.

---

Beating Donkey Kong 64. I made it to the final door where I had to pay the Rare and Nintendo coin but I couldn't ever attain the Nintendo Coin because playing classic Donkey Kong on an N64 controller was borderline impossible for me as a kid.

Finding that one last god damn Dragon in Spyro which was located in The Haunted Towers. I finally with the help of youtube found that bloody thing in 09 and then after that finally collected every little bit of treasure and completed that game! It only took me 15 god damn years to do it!

Beating Resident Evil 3 on hard mode. I wanted to but, the Nemesis hunting in hard mode? Fuck that he was scary/hard enough in easy.
Plus I have since 2002 lost the disk... ?¼ and I love that game.

Oh and also getting an rank in RE2(or any RE) via only saving 3 times.

Yes, but that condition with the end boss' shields applies even on Agent. PD does have AI that is much harder to exploit- they can actually shoot across chasms for one thing, and on Perfect they all get shields. I'm not saying I couldn't probably do it now that I'm older and more used to FPS, but I did manage to beat Goldeneye's 00 Agent difficulty and unlock Egyptian around the same period, although Control was almost too much.

But your mention of the multiplayer reminds me of another feat that will probably remain out of my reach- the 30 Challenges, many of which seemed impossible back then (such as number 12 being slow motion against Perfect Sims with grenade launchers). I remember there was a Let's Play of someone trying to do all 30 of them with help from his friends, but they could never finish it because they got too frustrated. Doesn't help that a lot of the weapons like the Farsight are broken in the hands of a Perfect/Dark Sim AI.

Yeah those challenges are sheer bloody murder. I think my most hated one was in Base with one hit kills against a team of 2 bots, with hold the briefcase. I found sometimes the only way to beat those latter challenges is to find a dead end, point your gun at the doorway, watch the radar religiously and start pumping bullets out just before they appear. Fortunately bots don't use the farsight through walls- just as a sort of golden gun. I find as well that both the Laptop Gun sentry and the tranquiliser have saved my bacon on multiple occasions.

Bringing a friend can sometimes help a lot- but remember the challenges often up the number of opposition to counter it, too.
