"World War Z" and "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks. I'm looking forward to the recorded attacks graphic novel coming out soon, also. And the WWZ movie.
The zombie survival guide was pretty shitty. It wasn't (and I know this sounds retarded) very well researched. The part where he decides heavy machine guns would be shitty against zombies and bladed weapons like a "japanese samurai sword or Katana" (ugh) would be effective against the undead, shittiness, saturday morning cartoon shitiness.

My favourite book would be 'The raw shark texts' which is really just a rip off of my second favourite book 'house of leaves' read both. They're awesome.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche and I'm still not even finished with it. It's like a journey of self-discovery every time I read another chapter. Before this, I had a soft spot for Tolkien and Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

My all time favourite book/series is easily the Traci Harding double trilogy
(Ancient Future & Celestial Triad) best story ever written I think, but an easy second would be the Garth Nix Trilogy Old Kingdom (Sabriel, Lireal and Abhorsen). They are both incredible writers and masters of immersion and I highly recommend both of them (especially the Traci Harding trilogy's, one huge story that changed my whole outlook on life).

My top two are The Shining (I'm reading The Stand now, I know) and Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. Ender's Game is possibly the perfect book for boys, because it has sick laser battles, rebellion against The Man, believable characters, more insane space fights, and people getting the snot beaten out of them.
And The Shining is not the best book to read in a new summer house in the country.

Oh, and I read Animal Farm independently and loved it, regardless of all the communist subthemes and everything you get out of it by analyzing. For me, analyzing ruins a good book if done first time through. It's what happened to me with Lord of the Flies, and I HATED that book... now looking back it had a good story, f*** all the s*** about Richard not throwing stones because the ghosts of society still linger.

Anything by Stephen King(especially the Dark Tower series).
The Long Walk by Richard Bachman(yes, I know who he really is).
20th Century Ghosts and,to a lesser extent, Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill(yes, I also know who he really is).
Brainwave by Poul Anderson.
The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z by Max Brooks.
I'm about half way through What the Bleep do We Know by William Arntz, Betsy Chasse, and Mark Vicente. Really eye opening stuff.

If no one's suggested it yet, "Thud" by Terry Pratchett.

Failing that, most anything from the Discworld series is a good read.

Alternatively, there is a vast world of reading out there, and reading is a very different 'hit' from games or media, heh, so enjoy!

"Y - the descent of men" is an interesting reading in the non-fiction section.

The Power Of One duo by Bryce Courtney

The Potato Factory Trilogy by same (3rd in series was a bit of a let-down, but great story connects the 3)

And of course (can't believe he hasn't been mentioned yet) JAMES CLAVELL!

Shogun, Tai-pan, Noble House and a few others of his: all great books, and cleverly interwoven, even though the events span over 400 years...

i haven't read orson scott card, but he's supposedly the new god of sci-fi...
He is indeed amazing. The 4 books about Ender and Valentine, and the 3 or 4 about Bean were some of the best reads I have had lately.

Ender series is better in my opinion though
