The thing is I'm a big Dynasty Warriors fan, and I liked to think of Red Cliff as "Dynasty Warriors: The Movie.

Don't worry, I am aware of the inaccuracies of Red Cliff and there were some scenes that felt completely unnecessary but in the end it was a fun and epic action romp.
Heheh! I can see that. To be fair, I enjoyed the set pieces [sub][sub][sub]and Zhao Wei![/sub][/sub][/sub], and I was surprised they let a Japanese and an Okinawan take such prominent roles, but never mind. So long as I took it for what it was, it was a leisurely two hours...!

As for The Twilight Samurai, I loved that film for completely different reasons.
Fair enough, that was a poor comparison. Hiroyuki Sanada... worthy of his honorary RSC membership... watched Hidden Blade at all? Same director and similar aesthetic and attitude as Twilight Samurai.

You really shouldn't include British films in this. There are loads of excellent British films that you have probably seen. Like the Harry Potter series, Trainspotting, The Italian Job, all of the bond films, Monty Python, Brazil, A Clockwork Orange, 28 Days Later, Kings Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, anything by Alfred Hitchcock, Shaun of the Dead, Layer Cake, Moon ... I'll stop there.

Actually, to narrow the list down to 1. Moon, you should watch that.

Haha, yeah, she was great as Sun Shang Xiang; one of my favourite characters in the film.

No I haven't but thanks for the recommendation.

I guess what I loved about the film was how unique it felt to me.

It wasn't some war film about a valiant samurai, charging into battle and cutting down numerous foes. Nope, just a poor samurai trying to get by in life and taking care of his family.

Looking back it was a pretty bittersweet film.

Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des loups). It's an 18th-century French kung-fu sort-of werewolf film. It's bizarre in all the right ways. Check it out.

Persepolis. It's probably my favourite film. Other than that the Studio Ghibli ones deserve a watch.
I can't really remember which of the english language films I like are US made and which are considered 'foreign' for the requirements of the thread.
