There's been a lot of good shooters. I'm going to say Call of Duty was the best, most polished experience.

Every once in a while, I go to my favorite Pizza place, and order a delicious pesto pizza, because I enjoy it and it is delicious. I don't scream at the cook that it tastes the same as last time. I am constantly trying new foods and dishes, and that is very important, but a tried and true recipe is still a tasty pie.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River, it was the most fun out of all the FPS games I've played this year.

Crysis 2. It was not a particularly good year for the FPS genre. And by not particularly good, I mean terrible.

outside Killzone 3 demo I played recently (which was better than I thought it would be), Portal 2 is the closest thing to fps I played.

OK guys, I think it's pretty pedantic to say that Portal 2 and Deus Ex are first person shooters. They might be first person and they might allow you to shoot things (kinda), but FPS is a widely-recognized genre with certain attributes that clash with the ones in those games.

So we can't count Deus Ex: Human Resources? Battlefield 3 then. DON'T BUY IT FOR SINGLEPLAYER THOUGH. You probably shouldn't buy it for console either.

Anyway, on PC it is the best multiplayer FPS I've played in years. Get a good squad together and it can be magic. I miss the Commander a little, but no-one ever listened to the commander anyway outside of tournaments. Here's hoping they make another Battlefield 2142 using this engine. I want to play Titan matches with Frostbite 2's destruction. WW2 would be good too, but Red Orchestra covers that pretty well.

EDIT: IF YOU ARE PLAYING SUPPORT DROP SOME DAMN AMMO! See a bad guy? It might be good if you spot them too.

Portal 2, hands-down. Deus Ex: Human Revolution was pretty good, but lost that spot in my mind because of Barrett. Haven't played any other shooters this year and none of them interest me at all.

Eh...if I consider Deus Ex Human Revolution to be a shooter (it really straddles the line, since shooting isn't the focus), then yeah, DE:HR.

Otherwise....ugh..nothing. Fucking nothing.
Duke Nukem Forever is just plain bad, Mindjack is one of the worst shooters I've seen in a while, and Modern Warfare 3 is so generic and BORING that I can't even count it.

And that's in a market FLOODED with shooters. It feels as though the entire genre is just drowning in this sea of generic brown blandness.
