Mine is Resident Evil 4.

The Resident Evil series is already one of my top 3 game series' and 4 did everything right. It was the first game I played with button commands and the first over the shoulder 3rd person shooter I ever played. It changed up the formula right when things were starting to get stale, plus it had Leon.

This has been done before many times but I'm always happy to give an answer. Mine is Mass Effect 2. The story is deep, the characters are interesting and the level of detail put in is astonishing. The carry over system is fantastic and it makes you feel like your decisions really matter when you see their impact from the first game.

Bioshock

The plot and setting together helped to deliver one of the most powerful narratives I've seen/read. The audio logs helped to paint the ministories of other background characters in their various roles in Rapture's rise and fall. This combined with the journey through the now destroyed dystopia provide a setting with rich history and wonder. I could talk about how I love Bioshock for a long time.

For sheer lasting power and the number of times I have re-played it: Chrono Trigger.

I have loved that game for like sixteen years now, and I am considering another replay soon :D

I could have sworn we had this kind of thread like a week ago. Meh, oh well.

OT:
My favorite game right now is Bioshock. The combat was kind of fun, I haven't played System Shock 2 so that kind of powers-guns dual gameplay was new to me, but that's not the main reason why I praise the game so. The atmosphere is very well handled with the musical score contrasting the decaying utopia around you. Of coarse, my favorite part was the story with the midway twist that I really didn't see coming, but I can now go back and look at the subtle clues that hint toward the big reveal.

I'm sure I could come up with 100 different answers depending on games I'm not thinking of, but out of all the ones that come to mind my favorite would probably have to be LoZ: Wind Waker. Loved the art, loved the sailing, loved the combat, etc etc etc

Plus you could get your own island resort, I don't know why but games where you can get a really nice house/mansion strike a chord with me

Oh and Amnesia: The Dark Descent deserves a special mention for being the only horror game I actually loved...... and I may or may not be to frightened to play through it again

Legend of Mana for the PSX. It's far from perfect, I could go on about things I didn't like just as much as I could things I love but to me, it's the closest I have played the perfect.

It's beautiful, it's well written, it's funny, it's got GREAT replay value, the co-op is fun, the various stories are interesting, etc. etc.

Yeah, it's my favorite game and I love it. I flipped out once it was released for the PSN and I downloaded it onto my PSP

Deus Ex is definitely my favourite game, I mean, I've played it nine times. I love the gameplay, I love the stupid AI, I love the story, I love the graphics...I pretty much love everything about it. Sims 2 come next, I think. I've always been fascinated with life simulation. Dunno why.

That's a hell a' hard choice. My all time favorite game would have to be Wild Arms 3 for the PS2. Awesome characters on both the good and evil side with this RPG/western music score that I love and it's the only game where I can to shoot down UFO's on a robot dragon, how cool is that?!

Doesn't really have any amazing gameplay concepts but I always feel really damn good playing it.

I have a lot of favorite games, but none of them come close to the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It was the first Zelda game with a very dark setting and a good sense of atmosphere and urgency. The three day limit was a bit annoying at times, but that was the challenge and what got you sucked in: You actually felt like the world was going to end, soon!

Plus, you got to play as a Zora. That's just awesome!

Megaman X, A Link to the Past, Silent Hill 2, SOTC, Mass Effect 1&2, and MGS2.

Jeez, I dunno what it is about sequels man. But, they do it for me.

EDIT: Oh crap, only one?! Well, then, it'd have to be Silent Hill 2. Yeah.....whew.

I would have to say Final Fantasy III which was really VI but at the time I didn't know. I really enjoyed watching my brother play it, and when he finally let me play by myself I was hooked. It was my first rpg and first game I can say that I seriously played by myself. I enjoyed the story, characters, and music. The opera house scene blew me away as a kid and I still enjoy today.

Portal, because it is the BEST.

Team Fortress 2 comes in a close second, because of its variety, nigh-infinite replayability, and incredible player community.

Pokemon, but it is just awesome.

Honestly I don't know, but to me it's a lot of fun and some of the Pokemon are just ridiculously badass.

Can't pick a favorite, too many games all have at least one thing I like.

A small list, for various examples;

Borderlands: Most fun shooter I've ever played.
Elder Scrolls 3: Accidentally turned my character into a god.
Elder Scrolls 4: Hunting deer with pyrotechnics and paralysis and punches. As an elf.
The Darkness: Made me care about an NPC
Saints Row 2: Psychotic Amanda Palmer look-alike.
Fallout 3: HEY EVERYBODY DID THE NEWS GET AROUND ABOUT A GUY NAMED BUTCHER PETE
Dead Rising (2): I am playing a Romero movie
Spelunky: Awesome cartoony Indy game (note the subtle pun)
Def Jam FFNY: Beating up rappers with Henry Rollins
Portal: The only reason I bought The Orange Box
Starcraft: The Zerg drones are adorable
Planescape Torment: What can change the nature of a man?
Bioshock: Wrench whuppin's
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2: Dwarf rogue is best rogue
