It should be no surprise to anyone that my favorite soundtrack is the NGE soundtrack, of which there are so many. They have various epic english chanting songs, instrumental, classical music, and yes, J-pop. There's just so much to all of them.

Oh, and 26+ different versions of Fly Me To The Moon sung in engrish...
you get extra points for that one because Fly Me To The Moon is one of my favorite songs evar.
Even if most of the singers couldn't pronounce Spring...
I had no choice other than to memorize the song after hearing it so many times in a row. It also didn't help that I bought Bayonetta the very week after finishing NGE, which helped to hammer the song in even more.
Lol yeah I know what you mean. Fly Me To The Moon was my grandma's favorite song by Frank Sinatra so it was pretty much the only song I would hear as a kid since I lived with her. Surprisingly though I still like the song I would think that after 11 years of listening to it I would hate it but tis not true...

Well that's good. Some songs you just can't get tired of, I guess.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Army of Darkness soundtrack when I was a little kid. Go Danny Elfman!! I listened to it so much I wore out my sister's tape(yes I'm that old) and I had to get her a new one for christmas.
Also I don't think people should be saying that any Quentin Tarantino films are their favorite. Of course they're awesome, that's half of the allure of the movie, the man has never put out a film without a superior soundtrack.

Overall favorite soundtrack would have to be Final Fantasy X, the finest of the entire series in my opinion. I always had a soft spot for this song in particular.

Another all time favorite song comes from my favorite game of all time, Mass Effect 2, which also has a excellent soundtrack.

Even though I never played the games, I adore all three iterations of this track too!

Aye, I realized today that songs like that can get you in a great mood in no time. I was mowing the lawn and had been doing so for several hours and needless to say I was generally miserable. Then the song below came on on the podcast I was listening to, and all of a sudden things didn't seem too bad after all. =)

On-topic...

Gaming (original): Chrono Trigger, specifically Frog's Theme.
Gaming (licensed): Radio X, GTA San Andreas. I was in 8th/9th grade when those songs were new...and loved them then.
Outside gaming: John Williams' entire body of work taken together.

That song instantly made that game so much better. I nearly fell to the floor after finding out that the song was the special theme song of the game.

I've also found that the Lucky Star OP and other equally weird/fun/embarassing songs have that same, lovely affect on me.

Elfen Lieds one is very beautiful. And it really fits the show.

Another one would be Kingdom Hearts. It has some of the best video game music EVER,in my opinion.

One of the best things about FFXIII was it's soundtrack. It was just so beautiful. For a film orchestral soundtrack, the best would have to be Lord of the Rings, while for general soundtrack including licensed tracks, Kickass. Those both used the music perfectly with each scene.

I realize that this discussion is gravitating toward games but how is it possible that nobody's mentioned The Crow yet? Soundtracks were a musical footnote before that movie.

Yeah, it really worked crazy well in that game no matter where they used it. Just thinking about a fighting sequence from the game with that song playing in the background gives me chills, big time.

Oh, and there was one song I forgot to mention.
The first minute and 40 seconds are just pure gold.
