Magic is the best. You can have the most powerful cards in the game but still not win against the crappiest deck. Unlike Pokemon or Yu-gi-oh.
I'd like to point out that there's a fair amount of strategy in yugioh that gets lost on stupid players who just go for high power monsters.

Yugioh FTW!!!! (The original game)
original game? what do you define as that might I ask?
Before GX and the retarted Motor cycle Yugioh (I'm serious, card games on motor cycles, it called Yugioh 5d's)
I know full well what 5D's is, I watched the first few episodes and got drawn out by the fact that it made no god damned sense. although what was wrong with GX? besides the alien cards, or whatever the hell they were.
Well, all the new card made the game way to complex so I stopped playing. While the show was awful. (At least to me) The original Yugioh is actually pretty good. (Not the dubed version of course)
the thing I didn't like was that they kept adding new monsters with ridiculous attack. the most powerful monster(not counting exodia) was originally this giant moth thing, it had 3200 attack, and you had two summon two other monster to get it, before they implemented the tribute system. Now monsters can get up to 7000, it's stupid.

the actual deck I have built is based on the concept that high power monsters are retarded. my strongest monster has an attack of 2400, and my best monster stops all monsters above 1900 attack from attacking, lets see those stupid pricks and their high attack monsters get around that.
I built my deck around machines, it is surprisingly good, but you would have to actually see it to now what I mean.
technically speaking my deck is build around water monsters, although there are a few notable exceptions. one monster allows me to gain 1000 life each turn if played in face up defence, that's not water. two monsters when flipped allow both players to summon a monster in face up attack or face down defense, not water, and one is shadow ghoul, if you remember how he works, and not water.

mtg i like to play yet i have no one to play with and i dont like to go to a shop and play with strangers
i thorougly enjoy reading the book related to each set/block
my favorite has to be ravnica
Hey, it's part of the new school. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Actually, Magic went on an upswing when Ravnica came out, so I'm really grateful for the new-school players.

Also, give MtG:Online a try. You play against actual people and you can actually exchange digital cards for paper ones. It's a good place to go when you can't find somebody in the neighborhood to play with.
ty

i started when i was like seven and didnt really grasp the concept of strategy so all my decks lost.

i like to play magic cards, my deck is crap and i only have about 250 cards. thats why i borrow my friends who has wasted hundreds of dollars on over 3000 cards. my favorite decks are pure summon decks, you have dozens of weak monsters you can buff and they will rape anything

I collect Pokemon cards and I'm waiting for my Geek Fight cards to arrive in the post but they're only for the pretty pictures and holofoil ones. Hee~

They're really fun to collect.

I have no preference, I've played Magic, Duel Masters, the WoW TCG and Battletech. I liked the WoW TCG especially because it was so easy to change the aspect of your deck with heroes. And the damage stayed after battle phase(fuck you, magic).

I used to play this Digimon TCG long loooooong ago, but since I'm stuck with being an only child and never really lived anywhere near other kids my age, I usually ended up playing by myself. *thumbs up to megapenguinx*

It really isn't enough to offset it though. I am aware of the strategy involved. I still got my ass handed to me by the big giants (and the people who were willing to spend more than 50 dollars on their decks but that's a different matter).

The Gathering will prevail!!!, but 2010 is not as cool as it should be, at least they brought back Lightening Bolt, but they took my Rain of Tears, now they have Tears of Diablomaki

not the biggest fan of card games, although when I played Yu Gi Oh I ended up with a set of cards that when played allowed me to attack people directly while making my opponent incapable of attacking, and all it cost me was 2000 life points, I kind of noticed the game was a bit rigged in my favor if I ever got all 4 of the cards together I needed to make that happen(that's right I can kill you with 4 cards and you cant do a thing about it).
show me which 4 cards and I'll attempt to create a counter-strategy for it.

Magic: the Gathering is my favorite.
For reference, the other tcg's I've played are Pokemon, Wyvern, YuGiOh, the Harry Potter tcg, and the Lord of the Rings tcg.

Babylon 5, if anyone remembers that one.

After that, Decipher Star Wars, Aliens Vs. Predator, and Star Trek: First Edition.

I used to play YU-GI-OH a lot. I have a good deck. But I lost interest after...hmm...actually, somewhere in between the season before GX.

Pokemon. The original decks, not this neo-metal-dark bullshit.
and this. Although we never actually played the game. All we had to do was show our holo-japanese-blastoise and we won.

I am torn between Magic the gathering and The Lord of the rings! both are very clever and intuitive, relatively long running. the main difference being lord of the rings requires strategy across an hour of play versus magics 5-20 minutes.

MTG is and most likely always will be my favorite trading card game. I've been playing since Tempest, although I did take a huge break around the time Mirrodin came out, because it was such an unrivalled piece of crap... I took up playing again with Ravnica, which in my humble opinion is the best and most fun edition of MTG to this very day... I still play my Gruul, Dimir and Orzhov decks occasionally.
Not only is MTG a great game, it's actually helped in developing my mindset... I used to be very direct in my demeanor, always charging at walls rather than looking for ways around them - playing a blue deck (or blue-white on occasion) for a long time has taught me a lot about the values of diplomacy and manipulation. >=)
