VG cats isn't bad, unfortunately it takes them ages to update so that fact totally kills them if I compare them to others. The side comic It's super effective is usually funnier anyway, although suffers from the same problem.

CTRLALTDEL and looking for group makes good stories, drawback being they progress VERY slowly per update, especially in LFG's case. I used to read LFG every weekend but got annoyed by how little happened since the last time I've checked. If you can somehow ignore them for like 2 months or longer and then read all the stuff you missed in one shot it's good reading.

Nerfnow is good for cheap laughs 1-shot jokes with fanservice on the side, plus the fact it updates often wins it for me. Other may make better stories but I'm usually happier after reading a new NN update then a CAD/LFG one.

Critical miss and name game are also good funny reads and another reason why I love coming here. :)

I like the Jay Naylor comics, Better Days and Original Life, as well as Jack on pholph.com. They really go in-depth with the stories and they're captivating.

I used to like VG Cats a lot, but it didn't really take me long to start realizing what a trashy production it all is. Though the author has greatly improved his editing and polishing technique, his artwork remains mediocre. The humour mostly relies on a technique made famous by Family Guy, the viewer recognizes that a joke is being setup, the viewer suddenly recognizes the setting, the viewer as a result "gets" the joke, therefore the joke is funny. In other cases it's horribly setup, and in other cases it doesn't even try.

He's trying to be ironic, but it just highlights how much he sucks.
First off, everything you said is false. I'd say you were sarcastic but you backed it up with a good supporting link.

"trashy production" VG Cats is the best example of a REAL comic. Expressions are exagerated, text is minimal, and the visuals speak half the story. The link you brought happens to be a terrible comic cause of all the text, but not all of his comics can be gold.

"artwork remains mediocre" I don't even understand how you could say this after bringing up the mediocre Dark Legacy and the stick people of Cyanide and Hapiness. His characters are expressive and show emotion, enough so that they barely need text.

"joke is being setup -> horribly setup" No kidding they're being set up, It's a VidGame comic. He refers to a game and we know the characters and setting. Yes, some of these jokes we already get, but seeing it accompanied by visuals doesn't kill the laughs.

VG Cats is too good to pass up, he barely writes any more tbut the archives are filled with gems.

It's not a video game comic I know, but Boxer Hockey is literally the only web comic I've ever found worth reading.

Especially Gunnerkrigg Court.

Without a doubt, Romantically Apocolyptic.

EDIT: Not video game-related, I know, but still a great read.
"Gravity, why do you defy captein?" Romantically Apocalyptic is legen...(wait for it)dary! It's just a shame it doesn't update more often.

OT: I read an absolute shed load of webcomics, but my favourite gaming related one is probably Manly Guys Doing Manly Things. It can be found at http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/ usually, but appears to be down at this very minute. Should be fixed soon, and well worth a look. Have you ever wondered who'd win in a Spartan gay chicken contest between Kratos and Leonidas? Bet you're curious now.

I'm not sure anyone had posted these, but Dr. McNinja [http://drmcninja.com/issues/] Sinfest [http://www.sinfest.net/]and action Trip [http://www.actiontrip.com/comics/at_comic456.phtml] are all really good. Particularly Dr. McNinja. Oh, and Sinfest gets a bit sketchy from time to time early on, but finds a nice groove as it goes.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Unshelved [http://www.unshelved.com/] for any literary types, librarians or library fans.

Ansem Retort is a fun sprite comic running on dead baby comedy, though to some people it may come off as trying to hard.

If you enjoyed P3/4 then Strain42's FTW series is a great affectionate parody.

Also in the general awesomeness category: Dr.Mcninja, seriously if you can't smile and laugh at this then you probably have no soul.

Order of the Stick is my overall favorite. It's the first I relly got into and it just keeps getting better. Updates like an abridged series though so it isn't perfect.

For past Wwebcomics that have now finished, 8-Bit Theatre, Concerned and DM of the Rings are all brilliant (8-Bit did suffer towards the end when the writer decded he prefered laughing at the readers instead of with them).

I also read xkcd but I prefer Irregular Webcomic (sadly ended) and Hark a Vagrant (sometimes at least) which feel like xkcd written by someone much smarter, oh and occasionally smbc which is wildly inconsistant in quality at it's best is like xkcd but without the agenda.

There's also Perry Bible Fellowship which is all kinds of awesome.

And I almost forgot Garfield Minus Garfield, pure genius.

I've only seen maybe a couple dozen of the many, many pages of 8-bit Theater, but what I saw was AWESOME. Definitely my favorite web comic so far. If I ever get an entire day to myself and have no video games to play or any other distractions, I'm going to sit down and read that whole series start to finish.
