doesn't matter what type of game, RPG or shooter.

mine: The Spy in valve's team fortress 2 hands down. all the classes in TF2 are quality but the spy takes teh cakez.

I virtually always play the dirty rogue class in any game and TF's spy is one of the most satisfying when you manage to convince other player you are on thier team enough to kill them all.

whats yours?

YES! Necromancers. D2 was the game that came closest to my view of a Necromancer.

Nothing is more fun than summoning the remains of the men you've just killed to turn on their friends.

And c'mon, fire. Fire is filled with victory.

Epic Wizard from Dungeons and Dragons. Level 90.

World-bending spells? Yes, please.

Also, the coolest spell ever - Sphere of Ultimate Destruction. A sphere of nothingness that disintegrates almost everything it touches...

Not to mention that in Forgotten Realms spells of 10th and up levels can't be cast. They were too powerful even for a god to use, so they banned them and no living (or undead, or divine/infernal) creature can use them.

I'm a big fan of range characters--the gunner class if there is one, but I'm normally a mage or a thief who throws stuff. If I get mobbed (which is more often than not), I've got enough space between myself and them to pawn the monsters off on someone else. ;D

Sorcerer from Dungeons and Dragons...not as many spells available to you as the wizard, but you don't have to predict what you're gonna need for the day. Though, if I want to go for a healing/holy caster, there's always Favored Soul.

...oh, video game class, right...
Sorry, I lack one of those. >.>

I often opt for being the big, heavy 'let's stand toe-to-toe with the ************ and rip it's head off' kinda guy.

In fantasy RPG's I opt for something along the lines of a knight or fighter, in Sci-Fi/Modern day RPG's I'm often the heavy weapons guy/shock trooper option.

Being heavy handed isn't always a bad thing.

I invariably end up as a tank. I always feel guilty if I'm sitting in the back of the group using ranged or spells. And if we're talking D&D, multiclass Fighter\Rogue.

Blaster, from City of Heroes!

Nothing like flying through a city, air whipping between your spandexed buttocks, and shooting fire/ice/plasma/bullets/WHATEVER at every thug that gets in your way!

Demoman from TF2, that's the one class that I always dominate with, probably because he is obserdly overpowered.

In DotA I generally play as a support role/caster which I find more enjoyable than a tank character.

Absolutely true. My character in Oblivion is a Thieve/Assasine/Archer (with a very high sneek skill) and it is extremely satisfying to take out an entire dungeoun without ever being spotted.

Having said that, I always go with a "light" character, mainly because I love to explore, and when your're a sneaker/thieve there so many things that you can get that normaly other types of characters can never get to.

Magician from Everquest.

You're a vending machine, a cannon, and you have really cool pets that fight for you. You're just very very squishy.

Druid in "Dungeons and Dragons" is pretty close to my heart... Either that or some kind of ninja thing which you can become at level 20 in Fallout 3.

LotRO's burglar is absolutely perfect for me. Stealth, crowd control, decent DPS, and the ability to start Fellowship Maneuvers. I like doing the invis recon for my group and then coming up behind a mob and tripping them, or throwing marbles under their feet.
