This is not so much about the game itself but games that are fun to tell others about because of a smart game mechanic or strange story.

For me at this moment in time I recon it would be super meat boy?Although just explaining the characters is strange enough in that one.

I love telling awesome stories from tabletop games... when the people I'm talking to know something about tabletop games.

I head a good one from 2e Shadowrun today involving super soakers and DMSO, and I tried to explain it to a friend because we were chatting on Xbox and I laughed about it, and his response was, "Wait, so they were throwing chemicals on the minifigures?"

Bleh. But still, when people have the slightest inkling of what a pen and paper RPG is like, it's the fucking tops to tell awesome stories from them.

What do you think of when you hear "Bollywood art-house fantasy epic"?
Dude, why are we not watching this right now?!

OP: Flower (PS3) it's interesting watching the reactions of people when you explain that you play as a petal floating on the breeze.

Games such as The Witcher 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Not 'cos they're the best games ever or anything, but just so I can say stuff like "licensed game that isn't a steaming pile of manure" and then slap people in the face when they respond with "but I bought Iron Man and I thought it was pretty good"

The Metal Gear saga

I love Metal Gear but trying to convey the plot to someone is like trying to recite the Iliad. It's long and complicated as hell and not something that you can just gloss over.
