Just curious as to others thoughts.

Personally Amnesia: The Dark Descent is my favourite, just for the immersiveness of the game.

what is yours?

Minecraft, Frozen Synapse, and Bastion are the three that stand out from 2011 for me.

either VVVVVV or Super Meat Boy, both amazing platformers, both challenging in a fair way, pretty much the best indie stuff I've played.

As an alpha player of Minecraft, i wouldn't say it was a 2011 release.

On an actual console: Castle Crashers or Plants vs. Zombies (assuming that counts)

On something like my iPod: ...I have no idea, way too many to choose. Lately I've been hooked on Princess Punt

That's like choosing between my children!

It's a tossup between Geneforge, Dwarf Fortress, Uplink, DEFCON, or The Binding of Isaac. I'll say Geneforge, BY A HAIR.

Hammerfall. It was later released on steam under a different name that escapes me just now. In it you use your mouse to make your little steampunk ship fly around in circles, swinging giant balls and swords on the ends of chains using a fun physics engine to attack enemy ships. Great little game. The only indy game I play, really.
Hammerfight, I HATE that game so damn much, could not stand the controls.

OT: Bastion, I loved it... Need to get around to beating it again for fun

Yep! Fifty games started, only one completed (and I had half a heart left).

League of Legends currently, though Cave Story and Aquaria are up there too. I have a thing for indie Metroidvanias.
