The start up noise and spool noise of the minigun on Timesplitters 3.

Everytime on multiplayer we heard that thing spin up me and my friend pretty much when "ooo shiiiiit! Its about to go DOWN!"

Also I think the intro' to the Red Alert song, with the marching, is the best song intro' I've ever heard. The closest I've ever come to that kind of eargasm was the steps synchronised with Daft Punk's "The Armory", in Tron Legacy. There were a couple of other moments like that in that film, like when Zuse's glass rings after he toasts Sam.

Hm... maybe the music that plays when you start a campaign and are in a safe room... And of course, the one that plays when you reach the next one! Nothing else comes to mind at the moment.

It's a squeak, actually. More specifically, a squeak sound effect that (I think) is used all around, but I first heard it in Rayman 2: The Great Escape.

For a more recent usage of that sound, I refer you to:

It's technically a music score, but as far as sound settings goes, its considered a sound effect. I like the low droning sound that usually denotes something bad. The last time I heard it was in Mass Effect when you're fighting the Geth near Sovereign on Citadel Station. It kind of sounds like the groaning of a large ship's hull.

Urthdat lives! All hail Urthdat!

"There you are."
I set it to be my phone's message alert sound and almost shat myself while playing Portal 2.

"Stay a while and listen" is a close second.

The sound sovereign makes in the first Mass Effect. So much win.
right? that was my answer too!

Also, does it count when someone yells GAGOOSH while playing DnD? that one is a close second.

Honestly? Anyone remember Final Fantasy Tactics from the PS1? that crunching sound effect they make when they clench their fist in a cutscene. Its like that creaking leather sound of a nice pair of gloves.... it also is the same sound fresh snow makes when you step onto it... my favourite sound effect for like, ever

Whenever I finish a section from L4D2, the generic rock is so... generic, but its to do with Skinners box theory. Most of these posts I'll predict will be about something to do with any random sound made and that will be part of the reward process.
When you finish a campaign section on highest difficulty, that becomes the single most relaxing and rewarding sound in the world.

OT: Mine would probably have to be the sound of the Squad Cannon from Killzone 1. I bloody loved that game, dispite it's flaws, namely because it had both kickass combat and even more kickass weapons, and the Squad Cannon was the most kickass of them all for me.
Yeah Killzone was amazing and the squadcannon was great! I loved the sound of the reloading of the weapon more.
Oh man, don't even get me started on the awesome animations in that game. Reloading was just so realistic for a full on sci-fi game.
Also, special mention to the KZ1 minigun/rocket launcher combo weapon, with officially the best melee animation ever. :D

To me it's the chest openning sound from Legend of Zelda. Sure I got a few more favourite sound effects but that is the most memorable (stuck in my head).

My favorite sound is more from a movie, but it's in the game of that movie too... so yeah.

Star Wars: clone wars. Shit game I'll admit, but the sound of that sonic explosion when Jango Fett is chasing after obiwan through the asteroid field, mind blowing.

*See's blue explosion, but no sound*
*The explosion begins to collapse*
*BWWAAAAAOOOOOONNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG*
*OH SHI-*

The hooting owl in Age of Empires II... and, if these count, all the voice commands... "Ooh, Aah, all hail, king of the losers! hahahaha" (9, 7, 8, 11)
50 points for remembering Age of Empires II...it's been so long. :D
Not that hard for me to remember it... I played it at a LAN/Birthday party a few weeks ago.. Still as great a game as ever :) Windows 7 gets annoying with it, but its an easy fix problem

I like the music of GTA San Andreas when a mission is completed, it?s sort of a gangster music and it?s totally cool.
