What is your go to movie?

It's true. None of these are my favourites but I like going back to them often.

Death To Smoochy - Covers corruption and how serious it can be, one of the few things I truly hate in this world. Also, the whole film is really well done, Robbie Williams was on fire here too.

The Little Mermaid - I like the atmosphere, the music, and the charm. Aladdin as well but not so much.

Shawshank Redemption - All the scenes are nearly executed just as well as the last and it has some really great scenes I like seeing again.

Any Given Sunday - Some of the best editing ever and powerful in it's own way.

Blues Brothers - Kinda the same as the Little Mermaid but I replace charm with funny.

I'm sure there is more I've forgotten.

I got two films that do the trick;

1. Fight Club, I love this film, it's the one film I can watch repeatally and never get bored of it, the dialogue is smart and funny, Brad Pitt is brilliant in it, so many memorable scenes and of course Bob, he has ***** tits you know. always remember, In Tyler We Trust

2. The Cat Returns, Although it's been a while since I seen it, but its my favourite Studio Ghibli films(along with Porco Rosso as well). I love the characters, Haru is a relatable character and the Baron is a badass. The humour is brilliant, especially if it involves Muta and the music is beautiful my favourite part about the Cat Returns.

I can rewatch Shaun of The Dead and Hot Fuzz especially to death. The LOTR trilogy likewise gets re-watched every once in a while. Not a movie but still relevant. I have re-watched Flight of the Concords and Father Ted box sets (10 points to gryffindor if you know what Father Ted is)so many times as well

Star Wars goes down at least once a year though, and then there's Back to the Future.

If I have had a rough day, I always end up watching Doctor Who: The ambassadors of death which cheers me up because the Brigadier (who is my favourite character) kicks so much ass in this story, and Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor. If I have to choose a film, it would probably be Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows.

And with a certain amount of shame I would also add:
The Room...don't look at me like that it never ceases to be entertaining (I think I have a problem with so bad its good films)
The Wickerman...see above (and add in the appeal of Nicholas Cage)

When I'm depressed or, just feeling like crap I watch Punisher: War Zone. Something about that movie just brings happy back into me. I wouldn't call it my favorite movie but it's in my top 5 Super Hero movies list. Not sure what else to say about it really...it's just so absurd and, gory and, magical that it just makes me happy.

The Room also makes for the good times but I have yet to watch that alone.

Any of the Tremors movies. There's just never a time where I'm not in the mood for giant worms and crazy survivalists, plus the series comes with a double dose of nostalgia for me because I've been watching them since I was a little kid.

I've watched Arnold Schwarzenegger movies since childhood, over and over. Most importantly both TERMINATOR films (there were only two of those, stop kidding yourselves) and TOTAL RECALL. Otherwise, either when I'm feeling more depressed than usual, or when I'm just plain bored, these would make the list:

With most movies, I have to be in a particular mood or with certain people to just sit down and watch 'em... The only one I can think of where that's not the case is Willow. So I guess that's my go-to movie. Warwick Davis can always cheer me up.

Groundhog Day. There is no finite amount of times I can watch that movie. I loved it after the first time I saw it. I was in awe of how deep it truly was after the second. After the third time, I started actively trying to find a single flaw in the film, and I could not. After seeing it about ten times, I finally found that flaw. The sound mixing isn't that great, especially in the intro where the song playing is really loud, then it ends and you can't hear anything. That's the only flaw I can come up with. The fact that I sometimes have to just my volume. That's it.

I've also been watching Cabin in the Woods a lot lately since I got the DVD. Freaking love that movie.

Probably either Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead. I just love both of them, and I've seen them god knows how many times

I'll always turn to those movies if they are on TV. Also, Starship Troopers. How can you not love that movie? (Unless you are a book purist who disliked Director Paul Verhoeven turning the "criticism of American military" message of the book into "Criticism of American military movies" in the film)

You... you do realize that you misread the book, right? The book was pro-military and actually showed off a system that the actual military wants to replicate because in theory in the book it was a model of a society. Everyone has rights, but those who serve to protect those rights and live get a few slight extra rights because of their sacrifices. The movie, on the other hand, goes a completely different route, which I am okay with because I love the hell out of both the book and the movies (except the second movie).

As for the thread: Get Smart (2008), 21 Jump Street (2012), and the Star Wars movies are generally my go-to. Honorable mentions go to Starship Troopers movies, Star Trek movies and movies like The Hunt for Red October.

I can think of about four I've got down as go-to movies:

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - A New Hope may have been my first, but it is to Empire I always return. It's just such a solid movie, and holds a hell of a lot of nostalgia for me. Love it.

The Nightmare Before Christmas - This was essentially the movie of my teenage years. I went through that seemingly-common phase where this is the best thing ever, but even now I'm past that I can still sit down and enjoy this film anytime.

Hot Fuzz - Much better than Shaun of the Dead, infinitely funnier and always watchable for me. Also, it's very cathartic.

Porco Rosso - My favourite Studio Ghibli film and one I return to staggeringly often. It's heartwarming, beautiful, different and fantastic.
