Really. I was so excited to try American chocolate for the first time, because I'd heard so much about it, but it's chalky and crumbly and just wrong.

I've had really expensive American chocolate too, and it's not as bad, but even our cheap stuff is better than it.
Yeah america is more into making things delicious with meat. Our chocolate is better than china's though.

Yeah I have to agree. My dad brought home some foreign chocolate once and it had much more flavor.

Still when you used to eating our chocolate you whole life you don't notice the lack of flavor. Plus it makes the foreign chocolate taste so much better.

From the 2 years I spent there, I can tell you this:
Type 1: Well-meaning, kind person. Sometimes a bit *too* nice, to the point that it looks condescendent. Certainly not stupid, but not exactly well-read either.
Type 2: Super-intelligent person who has read like a trillion books throughout their life, and knows at least enough about practically any subject.
Type 3: Ned Flanders.
Type 4: Super-patriotic southerner. Probably a NASCAR-loving, beer-drinking, gas-station worker. Shuns anything foreign and is adamant in his belief that the US is the only country in the planet. Always "Supports The Troops", but doesn't question the war. Has a wife, 3 kids and a labrador retriever.
Type 5: Overweight, blue-collar worker, possibly living off your tax money. Believes all Russians are Communists, all Vietnamese are Vietcong, all Mexicans ride donkeys to work, and all Iraqis are terrorists and Muslim extremists.
Type 6: Take any character from the main cast of Beverly Hills 90210 and copy-paste them into real life.

All of the Americans I have personally met were wonderful people. However, watching South Park filled me with great contempt for that country, mainly because some of the issues presented in it are so incredibly basic and undeveloped mentally my jaw just dropped and I wondered how anyone could possibly be so stupid and have no connection at all the world around them. These are problems most of us resolved when we were two, but these people are still working on them. WOW.

Then I watched Sarah Palin at the Republican National Convention, and have never had such fierce desire to punch a woman in the face, not even after watchiing Professor Umbridge from the fifth Harry Potter movie. Actually, replace woman with *****, her intellect is more that of a dog. When she asked what Obama would do after he "greened up the world" I wanted to knock her off her feet. Global warming is almost past the point where we need to "start now" in reducing emissions, and almost to the other side of the line where mass geo-engineering is required just to prevent total catastropheand the end of humanity and most other species as well, and millions of refugess stream into nations further from the equator. Even if Obama ordered all cars off the road and all coal plants shut down, it still wouldn't even be CLOSE to over. There would still be refugees, though I don't know how many at this point, I've heard anywhere from 100 million to 200 million. What a *****.

After all that, I heard that she really "rallied the base" of the Republican party, and all I could think was "WOW, that must be the retard party." I'm sure there's quite a few people with it who aren't retarded and aren't with Palin, but that certainly all I could think at the time. The idea that Palin rallied the base of a party which had about half the U.S. vote astounded me. I was certainly quite negative about the United States when I heard that.

As for you, I suggest you don't take the contempt personally. You and I both know who the people are who generate such contempt for the United States, and if you aren't one of them, just be proud of it. As for "average American" I don't have any intention of saying such a thing as I have, as I said, met wonderful people who are American, and would not wish to offend them (even though I won't see them again because it was on vacations) by making an "average American" category in which to put people.
Ya. But Palin's Hot.

Ahhh, that single line pissed me off to no end, yet it came up in almost every discussion about the candidates. Looks mean nothing in politics, and she is definitely not hot. Not to mention her pregnant child at home...

While america chocolte isnt great i will admit that hersheys cookies and cream is nice, and america brough the world many things such as kfc, now we may try and deny it but we cant deny ourselves kfc is the chicken of the GODS. Oh and of course the miracle of ben&jerries, we in england once denied (back in 80s) that there could be more flavours to ice cream then chocolate vanilla and strawberry. Oh the years of wasted folly!

I'm offended and I agree at the same time. A lot of Americans are like you guys described... but a lot of you say we ALL are like that. But it doesn't matter, as most of the world are idiots regardless of their race or country and only a select few in the world are actually intelligent...... Yah!.....

The news and tv-programmes we get in my country from america, makes the majority of them look like ignorant, fat, oil-hungry extremist phonies.. That tbh tells me more about the viewers of the tv-programmes, than it does of Americans as a people. It seems that Europeans love to look down on the USA, yet most of our television programmes comes from across the pond. If only the tv-channels would focus on other parts of their culture than Hannah-Montannah and the wars in the middle east.

It's excusable for alot of Europeans to think badly about americans, but I believe that the media more than the people from USA, carries the blame.

I haven't met alot of the cross-pond people in real life, but the few I've met have been polite and outgoing. I can't form an oppinion on the american people based on these few persons, just as I can't get any inkling as to what the general population is like by watching discovery channel.
I find it kind of odd that you said all that with a Jon Stewart avatar.

Maybe that's why I don't like chocolate. I had no idea.

I think of a fat ignorant hillbilly who think they have the best country in all of time or space. I'm sure not all Americans are like this but I'm Canadian so I don't have internet in my igloo and I have to dogsled for 6 hours to get to the nearest outpost.

well id say... every country in the world has their good and their bad.
but from my experiences online... id say american has a higher% of asshats than most countries that have a large online population... (that ive run into). of course ive run into more americans than any other nationality. and ive lots of american friends from my online gaming. but theres still a lot of american asshats online. for an example of a nationality that has consistently impressed me online... Sweden. ive met a lot of swedes online. and theres only been one or two that i actually disliked. plenty of neutral... and a lot of friends. but hardly any asshats.

as for the offline community of americans...
i figure its probably about the same. your average american is probably decent. but theres probably a fairly large percentage of asshats. though im pretty introverted. so i might think the same anywhere i went. and i havent been to the states yet. so my general policy is to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. i assume everyone is decent until they proove otherwise. so i dont have anything against americans in general. im not a fan of america as a whole though.

I forgot to add that actually, anyone who considers Palin to be hot says something about the woman around them. BA-ZING! Except it's not an insult, it's pretty much true. Palin? I've been more attracted to overweight woman.

"Average" American? Are you including California in that? I'm trying to imagine what someone 44% Latino, 40% European, 10% Asian, 5% black, and 1% American Indian would look and act like...

Average is non-existant in anything but statistics, and statistics are fake man-made things anyway.
