First question:
What is your most addictive game.

Mine personally is 'World of Warcraft'

Second question:
What do you think a Video game needs in it to make it addictive.

Starcraft,
Blizzard just seems to have the formula for addictive down, and the map editor adds countless hours more of perfectioninst fun!

Diablo 2 slurped away my hours like there was no tomorrow over various intervals.

I've also had a Counter-Strike period for a year and a half or so.

And then there's Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution and 5.
I really want VF5FS to get a console release but I'm not sure my schedule can take it.

Just like many MMO players get the "WOW but with..." syndrome I compare every fighter to VF and they always end up lacking.

I'm not currently addicted to any 'real' games, but I spend at least a half-hour every day on Restaurant City.

However I am highly addicted to the Escapist right now. This is not a joke. I spend several hours here daily.

Most MMO's, WoW obviously being the best example.

I think there is a big difference between a game being good enough that it makes you want to play it and it being addictive. I believe Jonathan Blow hit the nail on the head when he described WoW's design philosophy (exploiting players by using a simple reward-for-suffering scheme to keep them in front of their computer) as "unethical". Adhering to this unethical design is pretty much what you have to do to as a developer to attempt to turn a videogame into an addiction. The question remains however...should you be doing this? You will make more money this way, that much is true, but is this the only motive behind game development? Shouldn't developers be treating their customers with a bit more respect? Shouldn't their projects be fueled a bit more by personal artistic passion and the need to communicate something to their audience and less by insatiable greed? I believe they should, but then again I've always been a romantic lonely fool.

Fallout 3

Its a game that demands to be played for hours and hours on end. There is something addictive about exploring the wastleland and seeing what you come across. I try to avoid using the fast-travel system as much as possible so my exploits turn into long, adventerous treks.

I haven't actually played that far into the game as of writting this post but from what I've played this game seems so awesome.

anything with money involved. Because card games still count, and if you're good at poker or have a winning streak, you feel compulsed to play more.

any online shooter that alot if people are playing or ace combat 4 and to answear your second question to be addictive you need to make it competitive. just trying to be the best at anything will make people obsessed with anything... oh and crack

1. Team Fortress 2. That game is just so much fun!
2. Fun gameplay. Otherwise I'll just play through it once and discard or sell it.

Rome: Total War. When I start playing, I'm hooked for several weeks.

Why? Simple answer: one more turn!

1: World of Warcraft and DotA cause those two games just eat up my soul. Still wish to play them tho!

2: I think that a good story always works. A lot people who like a good story on a game will want to play it and play it. Another reason is being able to continue the game and continue the story. WoW does that toooooooooooooo well. New patch and everything changes and the story becomes more interesting and your character becomes different and just too much fun!

Or DotA for example is short and sweet each game (1 hour roughly) so it is like an small quick fun burst. But it doesn't end because you can choose another hero or do better since the last game because they end but you can just make another one. Like Team fortress and etc.

Oblivion. The quests, the vast world and most of all the mods make it incredibly addictive. Also, the combat's fun, getting better gear is motivating(again, mods can give you literally thousands of additional things to loot/buy) and becoming more powerful is a great feeling(if you have mods that change the levelling system so that you actually feel the increase in power).
