To me I would say the NES. I have very fond memories of the console. I still have Super Mario bros 1-3. Also one of my top 3 favorite Beat-em ups Double Dragon 2.

Though my next is going to be my current position, that would be a PC gamer. What HAVE I MISSED!? All the stuff I can do and tweak using a PC!

So i'm actually curios on how the escapist forum members see their most fond console generation memories.

Gotta go with SNES era, personally. It was the first generation that made me truly feel like a video game aficionado.

I have to say the SNES era tops my list. So many good games, so much time waste. Although that's probably nostalgia talking. My follow up would be the PS2/Gamecube generation.

Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1. They were my first systems and I enjoyed them (N64 more).

For me there's something different about "Most fond" and "best".

You see the SNES and the 64 were my childhood and I had the best times I've ever had gaming on those two things, so many memories. I was the only kid who had a SNES out of my friends and almost everyday after school we would all gather and play the thing. Then along came the 64 and Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart and four freaking controllers and even more after school awesome. It's just something that doesn't seem to exist anymore, so I doubt it will ever be truly replicated.

I mean these days even kids don't gather to play split screen anymore, they just meet up over Xbox Live. I mean yes it is the superior way to game these days (only time I ever do split screen these days are with drunken Rock Band nights), but there was just something truly magical about playing Golden Eye with 4 friends in the same room that just seems to have died with the new technology. I mean Wii has sort of tried to bring it back, but its all gimmicks and mainly for a party atmosphere - not something you do every day and doesn't seem to have the same kind of magic as it used to. So because of that for me the 64 is and probably will always be my most loved console (plus obvious old school gamer elitism of course).

Apart from the current generation of console games, and ignoring the fact that I have been an avid computer gamer my entire life, I would have to say my favorite console generation was whatever generation the Intellivision belonged to. First? Second? When I was in grade school I would lose countless hours in "Pitfall", "Beauty and the Best", "Tropical Trouble", "AD&D", and "Tron: Deadly Discs"... just to name a few. These games required infinitely more patience and imagination than most of today's games, but sadly I fear that there is no way to truly appreciate these classics outside of having played them as a child of the 80s.
