As a writer, I like to listen to music that puts me in the right mindset for the genre of story I'm writing. An example would be, say, an epic adventure story would have the choir from Lord of the Rings in its thrilling climax.

Alternatively, if I want to set a mood, I could turn on some Slayer and write a story with a slasher flick theme, or else I could turn on a song that puts me in the mood for a romance. (I don't usually like romantic songs, so I don't know any, ergo I don't have any examples)
