Not exactly, as you can't really trade with people (well you can but it's a real pain) and you don't have that much control over the different areas. All you can do is influence them, but you can't control them.klaynexas3 said:From what I've heard, it's EVE for people that didn't start playing EVE 12 years ago. Is that true? I'm upgrading my computer soon, and this might be a game I get once I make the upgrades.
Eh, I dunno, I think it has the potential to be like EVE, in the idea that the players can control sectors of space. Given the forums for the game, and the frequent posts about groups looking to form clans so they can go blaze a trail and control some sector of unexplored space, I think that the player base will move to something similar to EVE. I've seen people talk about being able to eventually build player made stations and stuff, and patrolling sectors, etc. So I think, depending on how patches and modifications roll out for the game, that it could swing that way, at least in spirit. Do I think it will become like EVE in the (economic simulator) aspect? No, probably not.Rattja said:Not exactly, as you can't really trade with people (well you can but it's a real pain) and you don't have that much control over the different areas. It is more a space sim with a heavy focus on the flying around part, and it really nails that.
Also it's not a true MMO, and right now working together is somewhat hard as there is no real support for that until the next patch comes out. I expect people will start grouping up to make bigger things happen at that point and hopefully it evolves from there.
So no it's not EVE and it does not seem like they want it to be either.
You are right, there is a lot of potential to swing that way if they decide to make it that way.Happyninja42 said:Eh, I dunno, I think it has the potential to be like EVE, in the idea that the players can control sectors of space. All I meant was that in it's current form it is not really like it at all, and what you are able to do with the world very limited compared to EVE. As I said, it does not even have any real multiplayer support until the 1.2 wings patch comes out.
From what I can tell they don't really want to allow players to trade either, but since the players keep asking for it they just might do it anyway.
I hope it do swing that way though, as I really like the idea of a player controlled world as in EVE.
There is indeed talk about being able to build things and so on, but it sounds like they are not too keen on giving the players too much control over the world outside their ships, at least that is the vibe I am getting.
Anyways we'll see how it all turns out as it is still a work in progress. At least 1.2 looks very promising and several steps in the right direction so once it enters beta (possibly next week) we'll see how that works out. It will be great to finally be able to chat with people around you!
