My opinion varies on two point - doing it because a person is in physical pain due to a disease or something similar is the tough one, while i would always try to argue against it i doubt i could supply a good arguement for it.

Doing it because of emotional pain, stress, debt, relationship collapse, etc, is probably one of the biggest problems with our society that people turn to suicide instead of to the people around them. Its one of the biggest lies of the modern age that death is the only way out of those situations, there are always people that will help.

Quite a few of these posts make me feel a little bit uncomfortable... oh well, their opinion.

Suicide is such a negative thing really, firstly because I have no idea what awaits people who die. Who knows, maybe they're suffering 10x more than they were when alive.

Also it tends to harm friends and family, etc. Makes them feel kind of helpless that they couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't even dare imagine finding out my child had commited suicide. I would never live it down.

Another thing I don't like about suicide is you basically giving up. Life has beaten you. If you hate life so much, why should it get the last laugh? Why prove the people who are making your life miserable?

I guess I will never understand the mental state people go through to have suicide. Sure you may believe they have a 'right' to commit suicide, but it just seems like they have no idea what they are doing.

I will never understand it. It's one thing to do it if your facing torture or pain. But someone killing themselves because they just had a breakup or they have been bullied? Wtf people in africa endure 1000 times worse and they haven't all killed themselves!

What someone should be able to do with their own life is their own choice. The only exception is if the person has some form of depression or similar mental problems which are treatable.

Funny thing, I actually tried today. I just gave up...
Suicide is very serious, so I strongly recommend you don't say things like this in jest.

Assuming you are serious, please know that there is help out there and you aren't alone.
I've just pulled these links from the web, I hope they help:

If you are feeling suicidal now, please stop long enough to read this. It will only take about five minutes.

I can't say I advocate it, but I don't look down on those who have done it. I understand the effects it has on friends and family, but I doubt, very much so, that people who are committing suicide haven't thought of that. Indeed, most of them probably feel that they're doing them all a favour by getting rid of themselves. I have sympathy for everyone who commits suicide, because however frivolous the reason looks to others, it isn't in their head. They need help, because usually depressed people have a pretty skewed view of their problems, and that can be helped.

I believe that suicide is one of three things on any occasion.

The ultimate quit button.
Anything built up to such a degree of stress to cause someone to push this button is criminal in and of itself, as to push someone off the edge like that is terrible.

The only option.
A horribly painful, depressing life caused (or perceived to be caused) by a mental or physical illness of some sort (indirectly or directly) that will surely end in an early death or far more painful effects at some point is the only justifiable instance of this.

Rash and stupid.
"oh noes, I hav loosed my g/bf, i hav notin to life for." or similarly miniscule situations cause this.
Slightly combines with mental illnesses that cause someone to hallucinate or generally experience delusions of some sort where they kill themselves unwillingly without knowing.

I believe that suicide is just as complicated as every other opinion-oriented matter in that it is impossible to fully explain the causes and effects (even on a case-by-case basis) due to the complex nature of all human decisions.

I think that if someone wants to commit suicide, for whatever their reason then they should do it. If they are that unhappy, or that ill that they don't want to continue on then they should have the right to choose that for themselves.

Euthanasia on the other hand is a whole different topic, yet my opinions still stay the same, although the person actually committing the act to/for someone else has to be able to live with that for the rest of their life.

Personally I'm looking to commit suicide when I am roughly 60 years old (with me having no kids and no marriage - which is a whole other topic), and my main reason is that I don't want to be a burden to anyone when I get older than that, and I don't want to degrade my way of living by going beyond a point where you are stuck left doing very little (I'm talking about past 60 here, like in the 80's or 90's). Plus also the mental problems older people can get, namely alzheimers being the worst.

I like my mind and memory and I don't want them to go.

This deconstructs it very well.

If you are dying a slow and terrible death, then yes, I think it's acceptable.

But otherwise, no, it's !@#$ing stupid. All it does is hurt those who care about you. I can understand why someone might do it, but I still think it's stupid. There's always a non-fatal solution for the problem, whatever it is.

And if you were psychologically pushed into it, then it's criminal, IMO.
